Nov 04, 2011 16:37

It's Friday the end of the working week for many, so today we're looking for fics that cheer you up after a bad day.  What do you turn to when you just want a smile: hurt/comfort, fluff, something different?

Dining on Pluto by vermin_disciple
Rating/Notes/Warnings: White Cortina
Why I recommend this piece: Sam eats and pomegranate and talks mythology with Gene. I absolutely love Gene's take on Persephone: “Well, wouldn’t be the first girl to run off with a bloke her old mum didn’t approve of.”
Gets to questions of belonging and difference in a brilliant, funny comparison that makes you want to revisit the show and tellings of the myth.

5 Times Words Fail Gene Hunt by nepthys_uk
Rating/Notes/Warnings: Brown Cortina
Why I recommend this piece: Absolutely gorgeous writing--"sensation ripples through him, thick and liquid like honey"--and fantastic Gene pov on the progression of their relationship. Also the only take I've seen of Gene finding out about and reacting to Sam's decision in the finale.

Visiting Hours by margo_kim
Rating/Notes/Warnings: Greeny-blue cortina, or teen
Why I recommend this piece: Some of the best Sam/Gene banter I've ever seen. One of my favorite bits: "That is not food. That is rubbish someone put on my plate by mistake." Also very interesting Sam response to Gene's discussion of feelings.

Whether I'm Right or Wrong by talkingtothesky
Rating/Notes/Warnings: White Cortina
Why I recommend this piece: I have a deep and abiding love for post-ep, especially post-ep that involves Gene essentially frog-marching Sam upstairs for a bath and yelling at him. Amazing look at Gene and all of his layers of emotion post 2.1.

Aaaaaand, sorry about the typo! First rec should have "a pomegranate, not "and." Though would also be accurate to say I enjoyed it because "Sam eats. And pomegranate." :)
