Sam’s flat seems colder now, Hunt’s presence no longer filling up the dingy corners with inventive swears and muttered endearments. Sam doesn’t miss him, still sees him at work, but he does regret calling this whole thing off for the sake of Gene’s marriage. His conscience ought to go to hell if this is just a bloody fantasy.

All he’s got to warm the empty places is a bottle Gene brought round once which they somehow never got to drink together. Sam silently raises a toast to him and waits for the buzz to settle in, numbing the dull ache.

That's hardly a worthy substitute! But I have the feeling his conscience WILL go to hell in the very near future.

So sad... Sam playing the good guy... I wonder if Gene would still change Sam's mind eventually.
