Life on Mars in Slate

Jan 19, 2010 07:23

Here's an article from MSN's online magazine, Slate, talking about the US and UK versions of Life on Mars, and why the US version had the "stupidest thing I have ever seen happen on a scripted TV show. It insults the intelligence of everyone, living and dead, who has ever followed the logical narrative arc of a television series." The UK version was FINALLY released on DVD here in the states recently, and my PBS station just started airing it, so it's a good time for DVD commentary on the two. It brings up a LOT of good points, including some things that I've noticed but weren't able to put into words nearly as well. :D

Edit: And now that I've been awake for more than a half hour, I can articulate the one way this article rubs me wrong- it manages to insult almost every aspect of the UK version it talks about, and then turns it into a compliment. Which then makes me want to slap this guy, and then kiss it better or something!
