I'm fascinated by the whole 'what if Gene knew?' idea so am jolly chuffed that you enjoyed both of these explorations into that world, even if the whole thing does do the Guv's head in. It would be such a terrifying piece of knowledge but bless him for hanging on in there for his Sammy. And fingers crossed the bunny will strike again some day!

Your Gene is like hot cocoa, he made Sam and me happy. He chose the best way to please Sam, best present for him and his...mother in law?(LoL)
I love the rough man's hidden gentleness, it so touched. And the last urgent plea, oh, it's perfect story, felt like Christmas merhen, remined me of Love Actually.

Thank you - though I'm not sure what Christmas merhen is and haven't seen Love Actually! Secretlygentle!Gene is a big favourite of mine so it's great to know that you like him too and that he made you happy. Always trust the Gene Genie!

Oooh, wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff makes my brain hurt almost as much as it does Gene's...this is so damn clever. I get lost with all the twists and turns of what age Big Sam is now against what age Little Sam is then and...nope, I've gone again.

Fab! Incidentally *coughs*, could I borrow his Mud LP and his Etch a Sketch?

I'm sure Sam would be more than happy to let you play with his birthday presents. He's nice like that. I used to have both the LP and the Etch a Sketch but both have long since disappeared, I'm sorry to say. Wish I still had them - they'd take my mind off getting totally confuzzled by the whole Little Sammy Big Sam conundrum.

This was so sweet and slightly heart-breaking. I love "Spit and Promise" and am so glad you decided to write this follow-up. Gene and Sam were perfectly in character, and I could see Sam getting so depressed over an old memory tainted by a new revelation.

Ah, it's good to know I got the bittersweet balance about right - thank you! Poor Sammy, I think I just about made him cry, but Gene to the rescue even if his head is done in by the whole timey wimey thing. Glad you enjoyed it - and I hope there may be another excursion into this particular strange world again one day!
