Merry Belated Christmas!

Christmas is becoming a very long drawn out process. We had a celebration on Christmas Eve, Christmas morning, Christmas night and now we will have another one on Friday (and that's just family!). I still have to celebrate with various 'sauga friends, as well as the Pdot gangs.:)

The reason it's taking so long is because things went sour Christmas night while we were in Uxbridge at my Aunt and Uncle's. My Dad, who never gets sick, was practically doubled over in pain by the middle of dinner. Everyone had different opinions, but heart attack got the majority of the votes. So we cut dinner short, piled into our respective cars and carefully began the drive home at a snails pace due to the sudden influx of snow and wind. It was one of the most stressful drives home I've ever been through. Picture me driving my father who is in serious pain, through a blustery snow storm, in a car with the heating on the fritz, with my nose practically pressed against the windshield, desperately trying not to get into an accident as we pass at least two collisions and another couple of stuck vehicles along the way. Thank goodness my sister was leading the way which made it a bit easier on me. I'm quite impressed that we got home in one piece, and I only fishtailed once!

Anyways, my mom (who was sick at home, quelle suprise) took one look at my Dad when he walked through the door and got me to drive him to Credit Valley Hospital (where they take such good care of you ... ha!) They admitted him around 1:30 am and ran heart test, after heart test, after heart test. Finding nothing, they X-rayed an organ or two and decided to do more tests. At this point he's still in pain, and now he's freezing and uncomfortable because they only provide one sheet and no pillow. I finally went and asked the nurse for pain meds and tracked down a really cute orderly who snuck me two heated blankets. Then I recognized a cleaning lady from my neighbourhood who snuck me a pillow. The doctors and nurses proceeded to ignore us for an hour or two and then finally got around to getting my Dad some Morphine and another round of blood work. At some point my Dad turned to me and said: "Merry Christmas sweetheart." ... hee!

It was now around 4am and they still couldn't figure out what was wrong with him. More tests! At this point, my Dad realized that he wasn't going to be able to leave any time soon and sent me home and I grudgingly complied. Not feeling so hot myself, I went home to sleep and didn;t wake up until 11am, when he was being discharged with a diagnosis of a nasty, nasty flu bug or a possible gallbladder attack. We shall see.

I think I contracted my Mom's cold and my Dad's flu and spent the next/last three days in bed. Such a waste of a vacation! Anyhow, I'm all recovered, my Dad seems better and my Mom will I'm sure contract another virus soon enough.

Going to exchange gifts with Les tomorrow afternoon (yeah!) and will be getting together with cowboy later on in the evening.

As usual, Cowboy comes with drama. I predict it will go something like this: I create high expectations (despite knowing that I shouldn't), have those expectations shatter when the same old thing happens, and go home crushed. Despite the fact that I know this will happen, I'm already creating those high expectations.

Sometimes I just want to smack myself.
