I agree with all tenents of classical liberalism, but I have huge problems with modern liberalism...
Classical liberalism is:
-Emphasis on Individual liberty
-Government by popular consent
-Political Equality
-Emphasis on property rights
-Limited Government
Modern Liberalism (in the democratic party form) is:
-Claims to emphasis on individualism while using litigation to find loop holes in written laws to undermine the individual rights of those that differ in opinion (not saying that Republicans don't do it)
-Claims to emphasis on government by popular consent, yet when it comes to breaking down the beurocracy created as a disguise for their oppressive policies they will use any means neccesary to influence the minds of voters (with tactics such as race baiting, social security scares, and scaring our generation and our parents with threats of a draft)
-Claims to emphisis on political equality yet the party that currently defines liberalism has recently hired 20, 000 lawyers to littigate this years election whether Bush wins by a slim margin or a huge landslide with or without claims of voter irregualarities or valid accusations of voter intimidation / ballot manipulation. I would go so far as to saying that the Democratic party is attempting, through littigation, to buy this election.
-Liberalism today has no reguard what so ever for peoples' natural, god given, and unalienable right to property.
-when it comes to limited government... lets just say that liberalism today thinks that the government's powers should be everything but endless... Unless it comes to their weed stash!
