I have finally seen York for the first time since I've moved here...

An odd statement you may think. But it makes a whole lot more sense when I reveal that today, after years of waffling and hesitation, I got glasses. For those of you who are my brethren in spectacledom, you understand how surreal it is when, after years of not knowing exactly how bad your eyes were but just knowing that they weren't what they used to be, you put the specs on for the first time and you realize just how fuzzy the world has been for you for who knows how long. What a revelation.

So what else? Well, the researcher job at the RA is working out wonderfully. These past few months my daily activities have ranged from lecturing on the swordplay in 'Princess Bride' to preparing a book on duelling weapons to packing up armour that was probably sweated in by Henry VIII. I think what I love the most about the job isn't just that it's right up my alley in terms of subject matter, but that it is in no way monotonous. There's always something new going on that I get to dive into. That was what was most soul-sucking about working in the galleries; the same thing every day while witnessing so much more that you could be a part of happening around you.

I'm not even going to try to sum up everything that's been going on since last I posted. Furthermore, I'm not going to repeat what I do after every one of my recent posts and say that I am going to commit myself to posting more. I'd like to, and I think I've been inspired to do so more frequently, but it's pointless to make promises like that. What I can say is that I want to do so more often because, quite frankly, I miss all you guys and feel like I've effectively dropped off the face of the earth for most of you. You can't get rid of me that easily, let me assure you :-)

So how about this... rather than me trying to sum everything up that's been going on lately, I'll open things up for questions. Anything you've been curious about regarding what I've been up to since moving away? Feel free to ask.

Ta for now.

p.s.   I'll be honest, this whole new post is just an excuse to bring out my naked Mal icon. But wasn't it worth it?
