There had been a reason Boone had ordered Harkness to keep the radio channel open and when he saw Ami's move towards point, he tilted his head down and hissed "stop" into the radio. Ron had started to trust Ami's intuition/empathy, whatever it was and had been watching to see if she reacted to anything.
He slowed to a slower walk, gesturing for the others in his charge to do the same. All the time his eyes were scanning for the hint of what was ahead.

Ami hadn't moved to Ron, but then, he was taking the rear... he could see her reactions.
