The best possible negotiation

YEAH!

Just got out of a meeting with my boss where we agreed on everything! I've wanted to change jobs for sooo long, been at this one for about 10 years now. Ugh! I'm over it! But, I'm addicted to the paycheck and the benefits. Since I'll be attending school starting in September, I negotiated with my boss to change the nature and scope of my position and earn a reduced pay rate.

Last week we went over job descriptions together and delegated tasks to other managers. I named which duties I was willing to keep (all easy for me, but valuable to him). We hardly needed to talk about it, because he was just fine with everything I offered. He came back today with some simple clarifications and a salary offer. I accepted the exact offer that I would have suggested!

My work hours are reduced from 35-45/week to 12-15/week. I will continue to be on-call for server issues and other emergencies. I'll still write checks and deal with personnel paperwork. I will perform weekly computer maintenance on the servers. I will only be in the office about 3 hours/week. I am keeping ALL my benefits (yes, including the weekly massage I negotiated one year instead of a pay raise) and cutting my pay in half.

I need to do some budgeting work, but I'm pretty sure I'll be able to pay all my necessities out of that as long as I dine out much less often (do you remember those sugar packets that used to say "Enjoy life...Eat out more often"!?). Good thing I've got those skills in the kitchen...and I can cook, too! (heh heh)

Now I just need to wait to hear from the government about how much money they are willing to loan me for tuition. C'mon! Big Money! No Whammies!

SLEEP IS IN MY FUTURE! I will be able to wake up without an alarm clock most days. I will be able to sit in the sun and leisurely drink tea and pet my kitty (take that how you will) at 11am on any random Weekday (excluding Wednesdays for school). My quality of life is about to take a turn for even more goodness.

YEAH!
