Suppose it's a hoax perpetrated by a team of writers? Like a round robin? Or, here's a thought:
You know how before Fanlib went live, they actively solicited certain prolific fanficcers? What if, in cooperation with the publishers, the creators of fanlib handed some of these fanficcers chapter outlines and asked them to write to their heart's content? Yes, there would be some differences in style, but an editor could harmonize these.
Anyway, that's my wacky conspiracy theory or two...
