Pawprints Of The Mind - FanLib Association-Chain Exerpt:
Being blissfully ignorant of fanfic as a whole (besides the slash stereotypes), the fact that fanfic is a 'female space' with the associated politics and ethics has come as rather a shock. As has trying harder to wrap my head around what business would look like if the Old Boy networks of

That's not necessarily true; yah some may bail (I would hope) but others are going to stick around solely for the potiental promise of commerical publication (which I have no idea if fanlib is still throwing out there or not - I haven't seen it much recently).
There are also those authors who will stick around because sadly, fanlib is more active than places like FF and they feel that they don't have anywhere else to go.
In some cases, its because their fic is ... well, blah for lack of a better term. I'm not opposed to PWP or lovey-dovey stuff but stories about 'omg, so & so is getting married' and the whole fic centers on that as a plot; yah, I'm going to pass. There's a reason I don't watch TV soap operas. *yawns*
Then there is also the fact that not every fandom is as active as Harry Potter or Stargate. I'll give you an example; right now my main is Power Rangers (laugh if you want, I don't mind ;)
Do you know how many dead sites and archives there are for Power Rangers? Tons. I did a google search for 'Power Rangers Fanfiction' this morning. I got a lot of hits. Unfortunately, most of the sites I visited hadn't been updated in a year or more.
This doesn't give one many options for finding a lively crowd. I've found the most active for PR to be either on FF or here at LJ. That's not a lot if you compare to other fandoms...
So sadly, some will probably stay at FanLib. *sighs*

Active in what way?

As far as communication between authors and updated stories.
Again, this may apply only to particular fandoms and it's not to say that it isn't active at all, but I've seen plenty of stories there that are not completed and haven't been updated in a year.
And FF's forums are a joke...

I have the luxury of being in the biggest fandom since Jesus, so it's good to get the other side.

I agree, that's assuming they've even been updated since like...the stone age.

Yah, I'm in a smallish one, though my first intro to fanfic was Stargate Atlantis. I expect that I'll come back to it eventually...

It's also become clearer to me since writing that post that fanfic isn't one solid entity. My apologies for that; I hate it when a diverse community of which I'm a member gets considered as a single blob with identical motives.

Now it's open to everyone; and given some of the fics appearing, it shows. I got no issues with A/N's provided they're at the beginning or the end of a story, but right in the middle? And repeatedly?
I'm sorry, but I feel that if you use an A/N to explain something in your fic, you need to put forth a bit more effort into your writing to get that point across.
My personal opinion on that; sorry, no intent to offend anyone...
