Damn. It's been forever since I've updated. I feel like a horrible person, because every time I think of something worth posting, I keep it to myself. I guess that's partly because of who I am, and partly because I'm too lazy and I can always find other ways to spend my time when I have it. I've never really been the type of person who talks about ( Read more... )

I do want to hear about exotic dancing banana muffins, by the way.

Why do you want to go vegan?
And why are you more afraid of dying in a 'boring' way?

well, I went vegan for pretty much the same reason that I went vegetarian. Even though the production of dairy doesn't kill the animal, I don't think that given the choice that they would willingly choose to live on a dairy farm. I mean, I think of it as, besides the fact that we don't even know whether the animals would ever do that consentually, and I think that they wouldn't, how would we like it if an extraterrestrial species that considered us to be inferior to them just came along and decided to inprison us and use us for meat and dairy biproducts. I'm thinking that we wouldn't like it, and there's a very good chance that these animals that we treat this way don't like it either. Or maybe I'm just insane and radical and this is a really stupid thought, or a really bad metaphore. Anyways, that's just how I feel about it.

*metaphor

They may feel uncomfortable and in pain (and I'm sure they are), but you're considering whether they may be intelligent enough to give consent. They aren't, obviously. If they were that intelligent, people wouldn't be doing that to them. You take "well, if they were smart enough, they wouldn't give consent", and sort of think of it as though they are intelligent enough to be able to give consent.

maybe they are and we just don't know it because they either don't want us to know, or we're so different from each other that we could never understand each other. And even if they aren't that's no excuse. If it is then why don't we use the vegetables and people in asylums and rest homes like that? It's basically the same thing, just with a different species. We don't want people of our own species treated that way, so why should it be any different just because they're a different species? We're not that different. We all still have the same basic needs and such.

I'm feeling terribly logical today, so I have to ask you what exactly the chances of that would be.
Also, if cows are that intelligent, then maybe they'd stop snorting up maggots so that they wouldn't get nose bots. ;)

Not to mention that they'd probably find ways to get out of confinement and the terrible conditions which they are in. You complain about the possibily of them being intelligent enough to give consent (or lack thereof, as it probably would be), but if they were intelligent enough to be able to give consent, they'd find ways to get out of there. :)

If it is then why don't we use the vegetables and people in asylums and rest homes like that?Since when did we not mass-farm vegetables ( ... )

well, when I said vegetables, I meant that as in the term used for people that are completely paralyzed and basically in an unmoving comatose state indefinatly.

and I don't care about the majority. Just because they rule doesn't mean that I have to go along with them. You might as well farm stupid people for food. And I'm too lazy to go in depth right now.

Well, my point is that the vast majority of people here don't want to eat other people, because even if they're insane, vegetables, or otherwise disabled they're still considered more or less equal, and so no one's going to start farming them.

...that was a really long sentence.

...on the 'more or less equal' part, I should probably mention that it's also because they're in the basic human form and so people associate that with intelligence. Part of it might also be because they associate it with themselves (drawing connections and such), so maybe in the unconscious mind there's a bit of a connection between eating another human and eating yourself.

But that doesn't explain why some cultures think that cannibalism is perfectly normal. Maybe it's just because they see it as meat is meat is meat. Also, some, if not most, of it is because they believe the flesh of other humans to contain magical powers... you know, eating your elders after they're dead to gain their wisdom, and eating dead warriors to receive their bravery.

I suppose it depends on what certain cultures and the people within them as individuals are used to.

So maybe as far as meat eating societies go, Cannabalistic people are the least biased and hypocritical. I'm not saying that eating humans is right, because I think that eating meat of any kind is wrong, but I just find it somewhat interesting that we discriminate our own kind from the catagory of meat.
