Letter to a progressive Christian author:

I just finished your book, Blue Like Jazz, and loved it. It has been a real inspiration and blessing for my life. It has helped me to truly realize God's love for me and the need for me to love God, others, and myself more. It is because of my respect for you and your book that I ask for your advice and ( Read more... )

Thanks for the input... I wish it were that easy. I know what you are saying about being honest with my friend being right but I don't really want to lose that friendship. And I still have not come to accept that homosexuality is right. At the same time I am not sure I would ever want it to change because I feel it is a part of me. I truly believe in sin and I am not sure if it is a sin or not. In many ways I know my love for him is good, but I don't know if it is completely. I feel it has become obsessive and dangerous despite the question of homosexuality.

do you think you are naturally gay? do you believe you were born gay? do you believe you could stop being gay?

why would "god" make you naturally something that he says is sinful? and if so, is that really a god that you want to thank, or praise?

oh, by the way...I don't mean to sound angry. your first impression of me won't be good, I'm sure. I've been where you are and you'd do well to speak to me. but only if you wish to become who you are and stop living a lie. otherwise, I am not the person you would want to seek councel from.

I honestly do not know if I was born gay or not. Either way I do believe in a loving God and a fallen creation. Rather I was born this way or not there are plenty of others born in unjust circumstances around the world. It is difficult to understand how God would let something like that happen though.

I know God loves me and he will accept me no matter who I am rather my choices are wrong or right and I believe that the life and example of Jesus reflects that. But the Christian church does not. I am growing more certain of my faith but less certain of what I should do and I truly love the friends I have. To not live a lie might mean giving up more of my life than I would gain...

All that to say I am still seeking answers.
