Sanctity of Life

Apr 18, 2007 18:43

The Supreme Court ruled "partial-birth" abortion to be illegal. "Reacting to the ruling, [President] Bush said that it affirms the progress his administration has made to defend the 'sanctity of life.'" That is... laughable at best.

Where was this belief in the importance and value in life when you lied to the American people and decided to go to war? Where was this belief when you didn't even take into consideration that the radical groups, who were under Hussein's thumb, would be freed? When you rescinded the Geneva conventions, when you rallied your party behind TORTURING human beings, how sanctified was life to you then, Mr. President? Where has it been EVERY SINGLE DAY since those bombs fell where you have left our troops without any extraction plan, without even the proper equipment to do an impossible task? For our injured, you appreciate them so much that you leave them to heal in rat-infested hospitals. For the soldiers who have given this country their last full measure of devotion, how appreciative have YOU been of that?

Why is it that life is only sanctified for the unwanted unborn? When our citizens were being killed and left in filth during Katrina, where the hell were you? Our elders are cast aside in this country - screw social security! And that's not the only government program to lose funding. You want all these babies to be born, but God forbid they get sick! God forbid their mother's be poor. Whose life are you appreciating when you, Mr. Bush, would rather these babies go sick? Why is it that once these children are born, they are left without ANY safety net? So many conservatives will say that a child shouldn't pay the price for their mother's "mistake" of not having safe sex, etc,. Yet, by forcing these women to have children and then refusing to help them in any way, you have subjected and will continue to subject these children to the worst kinds of poverty and suffering.

Is abortion a good thing? No, it's not, but don't you dare talk about the sanctity of life when you regularly, DECISIVELY, throw lives away on a daily basis.

In other news, I think I am going to get the follow tattooed somewhere on my body: "I prefer to be true to myself, even at the hazard of incurring the ridicule of others, rather than to be false and to incur my own abhorrence." It is a truth I have never been able to ignore or live without, though there are times where I wish it were so. Simply put, Frederick Douglass knew his shit. Of course... I'd have to find a body part that doesn't sag but is still big enough for the quote! And I don't think I have any parts that fit those qualifications. :-(
