I think there are two important things to consider when I say when I ran into a tree: 1). I was completely sober when it happened 2). I wasn't in a car or on a bicycle. Yes, that's right - I was walking. I walked into a tree. I walked into a tree without a single drink in my system.
... Okay, so it wasn't even a tree. It was a rather large sapling but a ninja sapling, because, while it came out of our meeting with a twig out of place, I came out with an assortment of scratches that range from my forehead down to my arm. I'm a little worried that one of my eyes got scratched in the process; I can't see anything wrong with the eye, but it definitely hurts. D: But that just adds a whole other level of fail to the ordeal, to be honest, since I was wearing glasses.
Speaking of fails, I lost
Hatchling Fest against
keeper_of_stars . The truly pathetic part was that I had a whole system for winning at the last minute. And then I was like OMG fuck that shit; I'm going to bed! Which is what I did. I'd had, like, a day of serious productivity and then slept for eleven hours, lol. At the end of the day,
keeper_of_stars managed her time better and earned ducks throughout, and I was awful with my time and lazy throughout. So congratulations, Goosey! Let me know what you want for your winning fic. And since I'm talking about fic...
Aka the year's worth of fic for 2010 meme:

Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted?
Um... to be honest, it didn't feel like I wrote a lot this year. Multi-chaptered fics have the tendency of making me feel less productive than I would if all of those words had gone into one shots. However, I'm pleased to see that I wrote more this year than last.
Where did you publish/archive your stories?
The same places as always: Fanfiction.net,
squeeka_quack , and any other relevant LJ community. ;-)
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you never would have predicted in January 2010?
I never anticipated writing any Good Wife fic. The show is enjoyable enough, but it doesn't interest me as a writer, really. I also didn't predict writing anything about Amber Tamblyn's character on House... mainly cause the character didn't exist then. ;-) In both cases, request fics forced me to go outside my comfort zone, and I'm really glad that I did. :-)
What's your favorite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest.
Out of the Question, I think. It's odd, because I really can't stand Rachel's character. But I do feel that I captured her fairly well.
Okay, NOW your most popular story.
Gift of Screws! It's my most popular story ever, and I could not be happier about that fact. I put so much work into getting each and every chapter up, and I do it without any sort of guidance from a beta. It's very fulfilling to see how much people like it.
Story most underappreciated by the universe?
Twenty-six Moods of a dark Lord. Maybe that will change, but so far, it's essentially been ignored. That's fine; you can't win them all, but it would be nice to get more feedback on it at some point.
Story that could have been better?
I'm thinking Nothing Compares. I like it; I liked it enough to post it. But I do think that it could have been better.
Sexiest story?
Without a doubt, it's Gift of Screws. There's way too much fucking in that fic for it not to be the sexiest.
Most fun story?
Think About Me. I don't know why really. I just think it was fun to write, and I enjoyed the conversation between Wilson and House at the beginning.
Story with the single sweetest moment?
Gift of Screws, specifically the scene where Cuddy talks to Rachel about what it means to be a Jewish woman. We rarely get to see Rachel and Cuddy interact, and I like that summed up quite a bit about the fic. I could be wrong about that, but I personally just felt it was a good scene.
Story that made you cry?
Edge of Chaos. Just finishing that fucker was worth a few tears. It also made me realize what a good beta I really do have, considering she betaed almost 70k words at once.
Hardest story to write?
Nothing Compares. The pronoun situation drove me nuts. Hopefully I managed it all right, but it was something I couldn't stop thinking about as I was writing.
Easiest story to write?
Twenty-six Moods of a dark Lord has been super easy. I don't know what that says about me.
Most overdue story?
I guess No Other One. It takes me forever to update these days, and when I do, I get the feeling that the two people who are still interested in the fic aren't satisfied by its development.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
Yes! Last year I felt that I hadn't, and I wanted to rectify that. This year, I can honestly say that I have done that. We did Glee Fest. I wrote Harry Potter, Good Wife, and Glee fic for the first time. I wrote Masters for the first time, and I wrote slash, which I'd also never done before... oddly enough. On the last count, I'm not sure how I went so long without doing that, but better late than never, right? :D
Do you have any fanfic goals for the new year?
Last year, my goals were to get 20 chapters of NOO posted (I got twelve), write in new fandoms (check), participate in more challenges/fests (not really), get more fanfic100 prompts done (hahahahaha, no), and run new rounds of
wilson_fest ,
sorkin_fest , and
glee_fest (only did the glee one). So that's basically 2/4. FAIL!
This year, I would like to:
1. Finish the remainder of my holiday request fics. Right now, I have
samanthaviner ,
keeper_of_stars , and adieangel's left to do. (Note: I don't think adieangel was actually making a serious request, but I liked the idea, so fuck it. I'm totally doing it. :D)
2. Complete my
50kinkyways table since people keep asking about it.
3. Write 20 chapters of NOO.
4. Finish Gift of Screws and 26 Moods of a Dark Lord
5. Do more contests and fests... including the ones I co-mod.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE! :D
