ZOMG Hillary Clinton Works!

I was going to rant about the CSI franchise, but I stumbled upon this article first about Secretary Clinton, and I'm perturbed by the whole thing.  First I'm annoyed by the idea that President Obama has "become" a superstar, as though somehow his accomplishments as President, including but not limited to alienating the moderates within his party, supporting legal discrimination of homosexuals, and failing to hold those who have committed torture under the guise of liberty and justice accountable for their actions, has made him everyone's biggest fan.  I won't deny that Barack Obama is a superstar, but he is one through a cult of personality; he's spent his entire career running for another office, so apparently so that his fellow senators actually (and accurately) described him as a dilettante in the New York Times.

For that reason, I find it even more ridiculous that anyone could be surprised by Hillary Clinton's ability to work.  Her reputation in the senate was that she was nothing short of a work horse.  What else could you expect from someone who lost her class presidential election and still did all of the work for the lazy douche bag who won?  What else could you think would happen from a woman who is the one and only serious female contender for the highest position in the land, from a woman who was demeaned, reviled, and cheated and STILL won the popular vote?

I know it's fun to explain away Clinton's actions by depicting her as some power hungry cunt whose only interest is the power itself and not the moral responsibliity that comes with it.  However, it's pretty clear to me that the only thing fueling her is a dedication to public service.  Why else would she spend her senatorial years actually trying to get legislation passed?  I mean, really, if all she wanted was power (insert the evil cackle that's supposed to come after that word), why wouldn't her political career read as someone simply looking for a higher position?  Why would she consider the position of Secretary of State?  For the love of God, why would she stay with the Democratic Party after all their sexist and shady shit if she didn't have something driving her other than "MUST HAVE POWER!!!11eleventy!!"?

That said, I do hope Clinton does have 2012 in mind.  Or if not 2012, then I hope she has some sort of sick fantasy involving Evan Bayh and hot fudge in mind.  :D
