Murphy looked up as Ray Vecchio slid into the booth across from her. The other detective was grinning at her, already enjoying the conversation that was most likely going to get on her nerves. He took a particular delight in annoying her. She wasn’t sure if it was a third grade way of flirting or if it was just his personality.
“I’m busy.” She said, gesturing to the file by her elbow. “Go away.”
“I can’t. Fate brought us together today to share a meal and get to know each other better.” He flipped over the second coffee mug and waved towards the waitress. “Are you still seeing that guy?”
“Yes, I’m still dating Harry.” Resigned, Murphy closed the file and propped her chin in her hand. The best way to deal with him was to be straight forward and keep her answers short. If she was sarcastic enough, he’d leave. Unless he was really determined to bug/charm her. Then she might never get rid of him.
“Does he know you flirt with me?”
“I don’t flirt with you.”
“Sir, you should know better than to lie to a fellow officer.”
There was that tempting urge to pinch the bridge of her nose. He was doing this to annoy her. No one could be this annoying without doing it on purpose. He was doing a very good job at it too. She couldn’t recall any time she had actually flirted with him, but maybe he liked that hard to get thing. Except she was completely off the market so what the hell was he trying to achieve with this.
“Did you have a point besides trying to get me to fall for your charms?” She asked, figuring if she kept asking him questions he couldn’t ask her as many annoying ones.
“Well, you could share the details of that case you’re working.” He eyed the file for a moment, as if he could see through the protective manila that kept the details from him. “I heard you got the bombing on the Mile. Big case. Maybe you should call in some backup.”
“The Chief of D’s is assigning people to this case. Go flirt with him if you want in on it.” She moved the file out of his line of sight. “I hear he likes blondes.”
“His mistress really is a knock out.” There was a note of appreciation in Vecchio’s voice, but it quickly disappeared as he smirked at her, “Me? I prefer a nice feisty brunette.”
Now she rolled her eyes. “Do you have an off switch?”
“No, but you certainly turn me on, sir.”
She just had to put her face in her hands for that one. Not that she hadn’t walked right into it. She really should have seen that one coming. It was just too obvious not to miss and if she kept this conversation going, he’d just keep making those sorts of remarks while trying to get information on the case out of her. She had to end this conversation now before she told him everything just to get rid of him and she had to make sure it ended it entirely.
So, she could be cruel or she could be surprising. Since she respected Vecchio as a fellow officer, she really couldn’t be cruel. Surprising it was then. Murphy looked up, grabbed Vecchio by his tie and yanked him forward into a brief, but very passionate kiss before she shoved him back into his seat.
“If I was ever interested in you, you’d know.”
With that she got up and stormed out, pausing only to tell the waitress that he was going to cover the bill.

That was freaking FANTASTIC. So him. He really does love that hard to get thing, you got him spot on. I showed it to a friend of mine too and she said it reminded her of a dS ep he's in!

TOTALLY. "Sir" at the end! Like, I wanna post this in Ray's journal to pimp it! And you just know afterwards Ray's gonna be watching her leave, thumbing his mouth and looking really impressed XD I don't think he'd be deterred by it! I love you! Thank you so much! :D
