RP Moment/Fanfiction: Calling Home

Jun 27, 2008 13:09

Looking out over LA with her arms crossed over her chest, Murphy rubbed her thumb up and down the top of her cellphone. She just finished a phone call to her daughter. Anna had sounded happy, excited about starting her summer with her mother. Murphy was excited too. Except for the slight set back she had with Vincent finding her. The taunting had shaken her, but it had also strengthened her. She was going to find him and find out everything she could about him. A man didn't suddenly decide one day to carve an R in a woman's back. She was dealing with a psychopath and psychopath's could be tracked.

She thought about calling Kirmani. She should have called Kirmani immediately after Vincent had talked to her, but instead she'd talk to Snake. She rolled her eyes. Not the smartest choice. She was lucky Snake was still holding back on killing the guy. The idea was tempting, but she was too much of a cop to do it. She wanted Vincent alive and she wanted him in jail. She looked over at the bracelet Snake had sent to her. She had taken it to a church to be blessed, soaked in Holy Water and incense. Call her paranoid, but she really didn't like the thing. Tomorrow, she'd call Kirmani. He needed to know.

Right now though, she wanted to call Harry. It was silly. Harry's phone was unreliable and his answering machine was worse. From this distance her cellphone could work, but she didn't think she'd be able to get through. Still, she wanted to try, just to hear his voice, see if maybe with thousands of miles between them, he could still help her settle down and focus. She was being stupid about it, but calling her boyfriend for comfort seemed so high school to her. Waffling about it was worse.

"Chicken." She muttered and flipped open her phone, pressing three on her speed dial. It rang, and rang, and rang, before there was a click and she got an earful of static. She could vaguely hear Harry's voice, telling her to leave a message. She was impressed, the answering machine worked. Probably meant he was out somewhere. Hopefully not getting injured or blowing anything up or burning it down. Dating a wizard difficult.

"Hey, Harry, it's Murphy." She said after a beep, "I'm just calling to say hi and check up on you. Make sure you're staying out of trouble, you know. I guess, hi to Bob too. I'll be home on Saturday. And... and I miss you."

She clicked the phone closed after that, with a roll of her eyes. Dating a wizard, dating anyone, was difficult.
