01. The day I realized my mother was never coming back.

How old were you?

That's young. I'm sorry. If you mind me asking...how?

She left my dad. Just left, nothing more than that.

Do you still have contact?

Nope. I haven't heard from my mother in 23 years.

You mean she just...disappeared?

No. She left. Dropped me off at my Grandma's in the morning and then drove away. She's not dead, I check morgue records and death certificates every years, she never turns up. I even check for updates on Jane Does. My mother left. End of story.

I'm so sorry. I know this might sound insensitive but I can't wrap my brain around a mother abandoning her child. Did you ever figure out why?

I don't know for sure, but my guess is it had to do with how much my dad worked and my mother was tired of being ignored.

You're father was a cop.

The department is hard on marriages. It was on my parent's too. My mother compensated by having an affair...at least that I know of. Ironically, she picked another cop....just that police officer didn't think a cop's salary was thanks enough for a job well done.

I know, the job ruined my marriage too. Never cheated though, never got that far.

It make you wonder if the calling of the department should come with the same vow of chasity The Church comes with...but then again....there's nothing like a guy with a badge.

There is an oath they make us swear, almost like a vow of sorts. I don't think anyone would be a cop if it also came with a chastity vow.
