[Based on this AU]Coronation Day was the biggest holiday in the Queen’s Empire and though there was talk of rebellion in the Colonies, Princeton still threw itself into the traditional celebrations with fervor. As part of the City Council, Murphy was forced to attend the parades and civil speeches. Surrounded by Mages, she was the only Null who attended the celebrations. Her people hated this day. It celebrated the government that kept them as lower class citizens and even with her position of power, very little had changed for the Princeton Null

“Hey, those are Council bracelets.” The girl took a step forward, “My grandfather used to have them.”
Murphy hid the bracelets underneath her sleeves again, wary of a Mage touching them and somehow setting off their magical power. “Your grandfather was on the Council.”
“He was, but… he died recently.”
“Councilman House was your grandfather?” Murphy blinked in surprise.
She had only known the oldest member of the City Council in an official capacity and found that the man was an arrogant, Mage biased jerk. His death had been sudden but Murphy couldn’t say she regretted it. They were still looking for someone to fill his seat.
“Yeah, you probably worked with him right?”
“He had very little to do with me.”
“Yeah, Grandpa was like that.” The girl looked embarrassed. “Sorry about yelling at you. We don’t get a lot of Null on campus.”
