final outcome of New London lawsuit

Of some interest to Conn-ites.... The Supreme Court ruled in favor of eminent domain, and against the New London landowners.

This has far-reaching consequences, as it makes it legal for any town/city to seize property for private corporations' use.

It's so depressing. I was horrified when my husband explained eminent domain to me, shortly after we bought our house. It gives me nightmares that our town could just lay claim to *our* house and force us to leave. (This is not an entirely unreasonable worry, since this town has invoked eminent domain and destroyed private property to build roads at least 3 times that I'm aware of in the last 3 years.) The thought that they could do so because a Wal-Mart wants our property.....
