NAME: Lloyd Irving
SERIES: Tales of Symphonia
HISTORY:
here (taking him post first game)
PERSONALITY: At the core of Lloyd’s character is a strong set of values, inscribed in him from a young age through both upbringing and experience. He may lack book smarts, often mixing up words and common expressions, but he is nevertheless quite wise. From an early age, he was taught the various Dwarven Vows, courtesy of Dirk, and ingrains them into his own life. He easily gives out his trust, and believes anything is possible if you try, just for a few examples of the teachings of the Dwarven Vows.
His values could easily be summed up as idealistic. He strongly believes that everyone is equal, whether human, elf, half-elf, dwarf, or whatever else. No one deserves to be hated for something not under their jurisdiction. No matter what circumstances someone is born into, everyone has the right to live a peaceful, normal life. Similarly, he believes that no one should be sacrificed for a “greater good”. This belief is what propelled him to find a way for both worlds to thrive, without having to sacrifice Colette or anyone else in the process. It’s all about everyone having an equal chance. His sense of altruism stems from this. He’s extremely willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.
Originally, Lloyd relied heavily upon the existence of Colette as the Chosen One, believing that everything would be all right if she simply completed the task of World Regeneration. He learns, though, that you can’t place all your hopes on one person. Everyone needs to work hard together. He also realizes that you can’t run from past mistakes, you have to face them. It’s never too late to go back and try to fix a mistake, or make up for a wrong-doing. It’s this view that most sets him apart from Mithos.
Lloyd is a nice guy, all in all. A good friend, he’s willing to do anything that he can to help his friends and make them happy. He doesn’t like seeing his friends upset and will offer a shoulder and an ear. He’s the kind of person to speak his mind, and doesn’t like other people bottling up their emotions. Lloyd can be a little cocky, though, and doesn’t always think things through, even if his heart’s in the right place. Stubborn as hell, it can be nearly impossible to get him to change his mind once it’s made up. He thinks he’s a pretty cool guy, but this is often questionable. His attention span is questionable as well, as he grows bored fairly easily. Hey, nobody’s perfect.
ABILITIES: Lloyd is a skilled and powerful swordsman, and he wields twin blades. All though he has honed these skills throughout the journey for World Regeneration, and the resulting pursuit of reuniting the two worlds, his power originates largely from his Exsphere, which formerly belonged to his mother. An Exsphere enhances natural ability and grants its wearer greater use of their own mana. Essentially, this allows Lloyd to supplement his attacks with his mana, creating a fighting style that combines physical and magic (also known as artes). Lloyd is partially angelic, due to Kratos, and has been shown to produce angel wings when he used the Eternal Sword to awaken the Great Seed. He may not have full control over this manifestation of his mana, though, as this was only one time.
