Thanksgiving Weekend!

Nov 25, 2007 20:34

Man, was it busy, and I have so much to share, so be prepared, this is a long entry. =)

Thursday, we didn't actually have Thanksgiving dinner, we had Hamburger Helper, lol. Mom, Dad, Matthew and Colin (Matt and Colin are my younger brothers) were en route to Birmingham, WA to a hotel, and we had a nice quiet night at home. Friday morning, we scurried to clean the rest of the house before everyone arrived, which they did safely at 1:30pm. I was so excited to see everyone, I started crying (go figure, LOL), and the boys were TALL! (gone are the days when I was taller than them. =( )

Mom, Dad and I soon made a trip to the yarn store (YAY!) and I got sock yarn and some pretty new stitch markers. Mom got yarn of the same brand/type, but different colors, we'll have matching socks! Dad bought Mom and I Christmas ornaments, a dragonfly for me, and a hummingbird for my mother from a glass art shop (Mom: It's like he knows us or something, *snicker*). They're gorgeous!

Then, we went and grabbed pie and wine, went home. Woe for me, who could not drink, but oh well! I made chicken enchiladas and homemade Spanish rice for dinner, and it went FAST! Everyone gobbled those enchiladas up, and there's some leftover mix that has "quesidillas" writtenW all over it! Then, we had CHRISTMAS because they can't make it back for the holiday. We gave my mom a headset for her phone so she can knit and talk on the phone at the same time without getting a crick in her neck (and I bought one too, so whoo hoo, lots of knitting/yacking time mom!) and a journal that was wrapped in gorgeous fabric that her name on it! Dad got the newest Eagles cd, Matt and Colin new t-shirts and chocolate that is hard to find in Canada (Milk Duds and Whoppers).

They gave us:
Craig: Incredibles CD, hand knit socks from Mom, and a ball of yarn for me to make Craig another pair (cause one is never enough! They're like CRACK, I'm telling you!!!^^)
Brandon: 3 Terry Pratchet books, Brad Paisley cd, and Matt and Colin bought him an MP3 player too!
Me: (pictures provided after this list) 2 knitting sock books, 1 on spinning, 1 pair of felted clog slippers, 3 sets of sock yarn

So, here are my pressies!

So, on Saturday, we had Thanksgiving at about 2 pm. We did a "North meets South(ern US) Thanksgiving. It was Kevin's idea, since he and Amy are both from the South. (Kevin is Craig's brother, and Amy is his wife, they live about 2.5 miles from us). Kevin smoked one turkey, then brined and BBQ'd the other, they also provided corn bread stuffing and cranberry sauce. For the last southern dish, we did a green bean casserole, my mom had never heard of one. We also had regular stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn, steamed broccoli and carrots, and gravy of course! Mom and Dad provided a pumpkin pie and apple pie, and I had the apple, (yum!) and from what I heard, the pumpkin was good too (I hate it).

We lazed the rest of the day away (and mom and I knitted of course!) and Sunday morning, Craig and I made a big breakfast to see them off with. We had Texas eggs (cooked potatoes with scrambled eggs mixed in), hash browns, sausage, bacon, and crescent rolls, and a nice big jug of orange juice. It was delicious!

Then, after they left, (and I cried for a few minutes in the bathroom), Craig and I went Christmas shopping for Brandon. I can post what we got him because he doesn't read this. =P We got him an espresso machine, 2 latte mugs (really deep and wide coffee cups), a book on coffee, a 3cd Johnny Cash collection, a speaker that hooks up to his new MP3 player, coal (for his stocking, *snicker*), a milk frother (for this coffee making), and for his stocking, mechanical pencils and white erasers. Those are for his gaming that he's doing, those pencils and eraser work best for gaming sheets, they don't damage them as quickly, or take the ink on the paper with them. We're also getting him a set of D&D books, and a whole bunch of other stuff we haven't thought of yet!

Oh yes, we also got him his new PJ's for Christmas Eve, and I bought some black and charcoal gray yarn to make a long-stripe scarf with, like this: http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/shows_dkng/episode/0,2046,DIY_18180_36325,00.html (click on the image to make it bigger). Only, instead of lots of colors, the color blocks are going to be a few rows wider. It's going to look great on him. =)

And, here's a great picture of Mom and I, then Mom, Dad and I at Thanksgiving!
