A little background info is good I guess. There are many ladies in our family here in NC through birth, marriage or just such close friends as to feel as family. About 4 years or so ago I thought it would be tons of fun to have a day for the ladies only filled with typical indulgent girly stuff. I've done alot of party organization in the past from birthdays, special anniversaries, family reunions, Quincera's (Latin coming out into society for 15 yearolds, kinda like a really fancy and formal sweet 16), retirements, bridal and baby showers. I've always had to then fend off request from party guest to have me organize thier own events (hey with a family of 45+ living locally I have my hands full already) *pats self on back for job well done* anyway the point is while I had alot of fun doing stuff like that it is exhausting work planning and executing such events. The last few years I've cut way down and only planned the Ladies' Day event which after the success of the first one takes place about twice a year: spring/summer and fall/winter.
As examples Fall LD 2004 which had about 22 adult participants and 8 kids involved brunch, pottery painting, corn maze, haywagon ride/ hotdogs/hot apple cider, pizza dinner, movies and finished out with midnight bowling and was a huge hit with everyone (except of course the husbands who got stuck with the babies for the night part!), sadly LD 2005 was canceled due to my dad's stroke but at least we got in a summer LD 2005 which consisted of at home mani/pedicures, an on-hand massage therapist, pottery painting at home, and followed by an absolutely delicious five-course formal tea. S-LD2005 theme was all about relaxation and I've been begged about setting up repeats for it ever since! Especially the tea and massage part.
As its getting towards that time of year again my sister and cousin asked me about doing something this year. At the time I was feeling miserable and said NO WAY, that I'd help bounce ideas and lend out my contact list but that was it. So now I've gone and contradicted myself. I told Kris and cousin R I changed my mind last week.
So far we have a tentative date set for Halloween weekend starting with a late brunch the only activities in mind so far are pumpkin patch picking/haywagon ride and exploring the giant corn maze again for those who missed out on it in prior years. The midnight bowling will probably be added on also. But other than that I'm kinda at a loss. I like to do slightly different things each time. Pottery painting has been done to death, I've thought about going to a beading boutique and have everyone work on something but other than that not really sure what to offer.
For the fall/winter LD I like to alternate inside/outside events and the day typically starts at 10am and ends at 2am the following morning so I have alot of time to fill. Also the early part of the day includes kids from infant to 8 years old followed by the evening part which is grownups 18 - 60 years old only, so I need activities that appeal to all age groups for anywhere from 15 to 30 people with a budget of around $50-100 per person/family for the day. The nice thing about it being spread throughout the day is that everyone can kinda pick and choose what activities they want to go to, or can afford and those who have to work morning or evening can still take part in some of the activites.
I'm kinda getting all excited about this again but still stuck in a bit of a rut idea-wise for the something new event to add to this particular outing. Any clues anyone? Help!!!
