another day, another cool app discovery

I've collected a fair bit of music from all over the internet, but that means I have a lot of duplicate songs.  Since I only get fits of OCD, this usually didn't bother me until I realized that no way should one have to suffer a duplicate song when one only has 4 gb of space in one's phone.

In a fit of frustration I searched for:  "mass edit id3 data tags" and found this awesome article from about.com! which leads me to my new favorite mp3 organization tool, TigoTago which allows one to truly just mass edit my mp3 collection!  This app is awesome, and I wish I found it sooner.
(edit: must remember to save changes!)

I then searched for  "refresh id3 tags in Songbird" which gave me the following solution from GetSatisfaction.com (in nice, summary format):

Open a new tab, enter about:config
look for the property and change the value songbird.commands.enableRescanItem (default: false)
Songbird can rescan existing media items to reset any metadata fields in the file to the values found there. This is useful if your metadata import job cancelled for some reason or if you like to edit your files using an external tag editor.
Restart songbird, and a new right-click menu pops up to see if you want to re-scan your items.

I plan to use "The Exorcist" add-on to clean up any duplicate tracks in my collection (still renaming everything!) but I'm glad my music collection is getting to where I want it to be now.

on a non-tech note: I think our avocado plant is officially dead and should be thrown out -- there's some weird kind of webbing growing on the soil. This makes me sad. :(
