At first glance, I thought "What?" A non-magical AU where Lily and James meet at a club and hook up? Ooookay....
But somehow, you pulled it off. You captured the essence of their personalities, made them seem REAL even though everything around them has changed. And that is so damn hard to do. I salute you!

"Heater broke… should be fixed tomorrow."
*snorts* Have you been visiting my room?

“This, we have to do. I’ll go mad otherwise.”
That is SO James!!

That whole dialogue does a nice job of conveying urgency through short, clipped sentences.

Lily has never been a one-night stand kind of girl. But maybe tonight, with James, things will be different. It certainly can’t be any worse than what she’s experienced lately, and who can blame a girl for wanting to recreate herself?
Oh, Lily...I can completely understand the desire to recreate yourself.

Why does it feel like she’s done this before when they’ve only just met? Why is kissing James as easy and natural as breathing and more right than anything she’d done with anyone in the past?
We know the answer to that, but she doesn't. :)

She may never see James again, a thought that leaves her surprisingly empty.
It's lines like these that mark the difference between a no-plot-just-an-excuse-for-sex-story, and a story that just happens to have sexual content.

She gives him no time to brook argument, shifting on his lap so that she’s straddling his legs
It's nice to see Lily be the decision maker. :)

“This felt so... I just... we’ve never slept together before, have we?”

“We haven’t,” Lily responds, trying to suppress the emotion stirring within her. He’d felt it too, the strange déjà vu. And if she hadn’t already been having mixed feelings about never seeing James again, she is now.

I can imagine how strange that must feel, for both of them. You do a good job conveying the connection between them, how they feel drawn to each other and yet confused.

Maybe, she thinks as she leans in for one more kiss, it's time to stop questioning.
Ah, there we go, Lily. Stop overthinking everything! :)

I like how this story is sexy without being overly graphic. You show just as much of the sex that is needed without going overboard and becoming porn. And through it all, the characters are recognizably Lily and James...so many stories fall into the trap of using slapping a familiar name on what is obviously an OC, but you didn't fall into that trap, and in an AU, no less.

To sum up: Awesome job, you should write "smut" more often!
