Birth: Fanmix

Rating: PG-13
Warning: Some lyrics/songs do mention and/or are explicitly about sex.
Pairing: Eleven/River
Note: My interpretation of this prompt is the birth and development of Eleven and River's trust and relationship.
Songs: 13

Kylie Minogue: Confide In Me
(River)
I stand in the distance; I view from afar.
Should I offer some assistance; should it matter who you are?
We all get hurt by love, and we all have our cross to bear.
But in the name of understanding now, our problems should be shared.

Lynyrd Skynyrd: Free Bird
(Eleven)
But if I stayed here with you, girl.
Things just couldn't be the same.
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now.
And this bird you can not change.

Heart: Alone
(River)
You don't know how long I have wanted to touch your lips and hold you tight.
You don't know how long I have waited, and I was going to tell you tonight.
But the secret is still my own.
And my love for you is still unknown.
Alone.

10cc: I'm Not In Love
(Eleven)
I like to see you, but then again.
That doesn't mean you mean that much to me.
So if I call you, don't make a fuss.
Don't tell your friends about the two of us.
I'm not in love, no, no.

Britney Spears: Everytime
(River)
Notice me.
Take my hand.
Why are we strangers when our love is strong, why carry on without me?
Everytime I try to fly I fall, without my wings I feel so small.
I guess I need you, baby.

Guns 'N' Roses: Patience
(Eleven)
Girl, I think about you every day now.
Was a time when I wasn't sure, but you set my mind at ease.
There is no doubt you're in my heart now.
Said woman take it slow, it'll work itself out fine.
All we need is just a little patience.

The Corrs: So Young
(River)
We are chasing the moon, just running wild and free.
We are following through, every dream and every need.
And it really doesn't matter that we don't eat.
And it really doesn't matter if we never sleep.
No it really doesn't matter, really doesn't matter at all.

Lionel Richie: Hello
(Eleven)
Are you somewhere feeling lonely, or is someone loving you?
Tell me how to win your heart, for I haven't got a clue.
But let me start by saying I love you.

Celine Dion: Because You Loved Me
(River)
You saw the best there was in me.
Lifted me up when I couldn't reach, you gave me faith 'cause you believed.
I'm everything I am because you loved me.

AC/DC: Touch Too Much
(Eleven)
She had the face of an angel smiling with sin, the body of Venus with arms.
Dealing with danger, stroking my skin, like a thunder and lightening storm.
It wasn't the first, wasn't the last, it wasn't that she didn't care.
She wanted it hard, wanted it fast.
She liked it done medium rare.

Rammstein: Stirb Nicht Vor Mir (Don't Die Before I Do)
(Eleven & River)
I don't know who he is. In my dreams he does exist.
His passion is a kiss. And I cannot resist.
Ich warte hier (I wait here).
Don't die before I do.
Ich warte hier (I wait here).
Stirb nicht vor mir (Don't die before I do).

Mariah Carey: Without You
(River)
When I had you there, but then I let you go.
And now it's only fair that I should let you know, what you should know.
I can't live, if living is without you.
I can't live, I can't give anymore.

Coldplay: The Scientist
(Eleven)
Nobody said it was easy.
It's such a shame for us to part.
Nobody said it was easy.
No one ever said it would be this hard.
Oh, take me back to the start.

Trust: Fanfiction

Rating: PG
Pairings: Theta/Koschei, Doctor/Master
Word Count: 601

They trusted each other.

It was unspoken, in truth. An uttered agreement made centuries ago that didn't really hold any residence that could be detected. Though it wasn't written down on paper, had no legitimate physical presence anywhere in the known Universe, both knew the honest fact behind everything they did. Whether they were the best friends calling themselves Theta Sigma and Koschei, or the sworn enemies going by the titles of Doctor and Master, neither ever let the mutual understanding waver.

It came down to the basics, really.

Theta trusted Koschei to always be there for him, to always be at his side, to forever keep him grounded when his emotions threatened to cause too much mental harm. And, of course, the Master trusted the Doctor, to always be there to stop him, to always be on the opposing side, to halt his plans when his nature got the better of him and threatened to destroy something far too precious to be tampered with.

If an 'I love you' escaped a mouth, the reply would be harsh.

In a way, they had hated each other from the very start.

Koschei was the outgoing one. He had the plans, the ideas, the disrespect towards his peers and superiors that would allow him to go against the rules when he saw fit to. Theta was the clever one. He had the means and mind to make Koschei's plans come to life, the cunning to work his way out of sticky situations, and the morals to keep them both in check when their little games got out of hand.

If an 'I hate you' escaped a mouth, the reply would be wonderful.

In a way, they would love each other until the very end.

The Doctor was supposed to be the good guy, the one who came up with solutions to save planets, the one with the will to put things right. The Master was apparently the bad guy, the person able to create predicaments of terror, the man with the mental state that allowed him to manipulate his enemies.

Sometimes, if one looked close enough, they would claim that the two were opposites. Far too co-dependent for the species they were, and with a relationship that resembled a desire to try and ignore their disgust and attraction towards one another, both Time Lords had gone to extremes to cause the other pain, and both had gone to ridiculous lengths to make sure no one else caused the other mental or physical damage.

If one was hurt, the other had to have caused it, or the entire Universe would come under threat. Genocide would happen, planets would be exterminated, entire species would become extinct. Even if it wasn't done purposely, terrible events would occur, and, coincidentally, it would always hurt the person who had dared to harm either the Doctor or the Master without permission.

They weren't opposites, though.

The Master had helped to save lives, whilst the Doctor had helped to kill souls. They were the same, but they weren't that, either. One was supposed to be the good guy, while the other was supposed to be the bad guy. Those lines blurred, though, when they were torn apart by something that wasn't themselves.

No one could truly understand them, because it was impossible to have complete knowledge of a relationship that was both terribly beautiful and utterly broken at the same time.

When it came down to it, though, everything about them and what they did could be explained through a simple statement: they trusted each other, and trusted nobody else.

New Year's: Fanfiction

Rating: PG
Pairings: Eleven/River (implied), Eleven/Jack (implied)
Word Count: 916

"He does know it's not-"

"Probably?"

"Then why is he-"

"Because he's the Doctor."

River eyed Jack with concern. Surely this wasn't normal behaviour for the Time Lord? Eyebrows scrunching into a frown, River couldn't help but feel utterly bewildered as she caught sight of Jack's expression. Judging from the amusement in his features, this definitely was typical of the Doctor.

Shaking her head, not bothering to hide the disbelief she was currently feeling, River turned her attention back to the person in question. The Doctor was a good man, as far as River could tell, had intelligence that was far superior to any other alien she had encountered, and, bizarrely, he appeared to be completely oblivious to the fact that he was receiving some very bewildered stares.

As he went around the crowd, shaking hands and gleefully wishing everyone a happy New Year, it appeared that, although Jack's assumption was that the Doctor probably knew it wasn't actually the 1st of January, the Doctor actually had no clue about that truth. The man was utterly delighted, giving hugs, and pressing kisses to people's cheeks as though the clock had just struck midnight. It was a bemusing thing to witness, yet River couldn't deny her fascination.

"Maybe we should tell him."

Gaze returning to Jack, River felt her face flush with embarrassment. The expression on Jack's features was almost a reprimand in of itself, as though the statement River had made was ridiculous and, to an extent, even offensive.

"He's making a complete fool of himself!" River complained, gesturing towards the Doctor in a vague attempt to convey her message. How could Jack not realise that letting the Doctor spout off his 'Happy New Year's!' was not doing him any good in terms of blending in?

"It's okay. You've only been travelling for a few weeks. You'll get used to it eventually."

River's features contorted in confusion. Jack just smiled, before moving his gaze in the direction of their present topic of discussion. The so called Captain looked completely at ease. He was calm, seemed to have a content composure, was the epitome of comfortable with the situation.

River didn't understand. This odd, unusual alien was a species that, until recently, River had thought to be extinct, and he was nothing like River had imagined Time Lords would be. In a way, he was the opposite; a little bit eccentric, confident in a room full of what he would call aliens, and extremely child-like in his excitement and enthusiasm. Truthfully, River could not say she was disappointed with the turn of events. The Doctor was mesmerising, both as a being and as something to watch.

The group of people wasn't large, as it was a private party, and the Doctor was finally getting to the last couple of people. They were tall women who were wearing similar dresses, and they hadn't taken their eyes off the Doctor since he had begun wishing everyone a good New Year. Though their expressions were rather bemused, their looks of confusion weren't unkind. Allowing the Doctor to shake her hand, the younger of the two women gave a polite smile and leant forwards when the Doctor moved to peck her cheek. The other woman followed suit, doing the same but offering an amused 'Happy New Year' of her own in return.

This made the Doctor very happy, if the way his entire face lit up in pure joy was anything to go by. Finally finished with all the strangers in the room, the Doctor spun on his heel and made his way back over to his two companions. Offering them a magnificent grin, he clapped his hands together before turning to Jack and grabbing his shoulders. Pulling the man down and pressing their lips together in a rapid movement, River was startled and, listening to the small noise that escaped Jack as their lips touched, River came to the conclusion that he had been taken by surprise too.

The kiss lasted only a few seconds, and when the Doctor moved back he instantly locked his eyes with River. And finally, finally she understood.

He took longer to press his lips to hers, as though he was hesitating in case she protested against the action. It was a chaste kiss, more like a peck than anything passionate, but River made sure to reciprocate it.

When the Doctor pulled away, River glared. "You know it's not New Year's day."

"Of course I do," he replied, as though that should have been obvious.

Jack was staring at the Doctor as if he had grown a second head. "Why'd you go around saying that to everyone then?"

The Doctor smirked. "Maybe I was in the spirit of things," he said, before his eyes narrowed and his smirk turned, River was quite happy to acknowledge, into something very delicious indeed.

"Or maybe I just wanted an excuse to kiss my two very gorgeous companions."

At once his expression became nonchalant. "Probably the former. Yes, definitely the former."

River felt her entire face contort in a sheer mockery of outrage, though she was aware that her grin gave away what she was really feeling.

"Do shut up, sweetie."

"Why don't you make me?"

Turning to Jack with a raised eyebrow, she was glad to find Jack's expression was almost identical to what she assumed her own was. Even if, technically, they had nothing to celebrate, they were still going to have a very good time today.

Apologies: Fanfiction

Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Eleven/River
Word Count: 652

Face flushing, cheeks and neck becoming warm as embarrassment flooded him, the Doctor opened his mouth in the rapid attempt to let out an apology; the word he wanted to say wasn't able to escape, because River chose that moment to cover his mouth with her hand. Watching as she lifted her head into view, the Doctor was surprised to find a look of amusement adorning her features. The smile lit up her entire face.

"Oh, sweetie." Shaking her head, River's smile lifted into a grin. Moving up the bed slightly to get into a more comfortable position, she tilted her head a tiny bit. Watching as his blush darkened even more, she couldn't help the chuckle. She pulled her hand away from his hot flesh, and the cold that hit her palm was not wanted.

"I didn't mean to-"

Rolling her eyes and covering his mouth up once again, River blew out a sigh. The comment she had made, in her own mind, had not been funny in the slightest sense. It had meant to help with the passion, maybe gain a reaction that would thrill her, but instead his response had been an uncontrollable fit of laughter. Of course, it hadn't taken him long to realise he'd killed the mood instantly, and that had effectively shut him up in record time.

Leaning in close, she parted her lips and began trailing her tongue along his neck. Taking her time, she felt it when his breath hitched. Smiling, slowing down even more and mistaking his reaction as a positive sign that all was not lost, River removed her hand from his mouth once more and rested it on his chest. She immediately regretted the action when a giggle passed out of him. Halting her movements, staring blankly at the now moist flesh of his neck for a second, River felt a wave of disbelief wash through her as she realised what was wrong.

Unable to prevent the huff from leaving her throat, River quickly sat up and turned her head to look at him with frustration.

"Really?" she asked, her voice cracking oddly for some strange reason. At once his features contorted in guilt, yet River could clearly see the underlying mirth in his eyes that he was failing to conceal.

"Sorry."

River pursed her lips. "Trust me to be stuck with the face of yours that has the odd sense of humour," she commented, making sure to smile so he wouldn't take it the wrong way.

"Sorry," he said again, now not even bothering to hide the obvious glee he was feeling about the situation. Giving a tut, shoving him a tiny bit with her leg, she felt a nice warmth spread through her as he continued watching her, a joyful grin lighting up his features as he did so. It was exciting, something new, a weird development about him that she hadn't seen coming. Getting him to react to her touch in the way that she wanted was going to be difficult, a challenge; the realisation of that was brilliant.

"Stop apologising. It's not your fault." River gave a mock frown, indicating that her statement was both serious and not to be taken to heart.

His smile faltered. "Sorry."

And River lost it. Bursting into laughter, happy to hear him do the same not half a second later, River closed her eyes and brought her head down to rest it on his stomach. Feeling his body shake underneath her, River understood that this was not exactly how she'd planned on spending the night with him. Her initial idea had involved much more energy and intimacy, though she had to admit that this wasn't a bad turn of events.

Right now they could laugh, have fun. There was plenty of time for other things... If he learnt to not giggle every time she touched him with her tongue, of course.

No: Fanfiction

Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Eleven/River
Word Count: 500

"No."

It's a statement. Spoken through gritted teeth, the word is whispered, though both of them are able to hear it. The tone is hoarse; the voice has a tiny tremble in it. Understanding that he is able to catch the nervousness behind the answer makes River want to scream, makes her want to yell at him, lash out and hit him in ways that will cause real harm to his body. It's a startling reaction, but one she is used to. The word magnificent doesn't quite cover how it makes her feel.

She won't slap the Doctor. Well, she won't slap him yet. That comes later.

She won't invade his personal space, or threaten him with words. She knows herself too well; knows him better. Dealing a blow to his form will just give him ammunition to make her angry, and that isn't what she wants right now. Control is what River desires, and power will be denied if she allows herself to become emotional. She needs him to accept her answer. That is all that is required. His response is the most important thing, as it will show how the rest of the night will pan out. She isn't sure how early in their relationship this is for him. Is it too early for him to give her what she wants?

"No?"

The Doctor just continues to stare at her. She nods, licking her lips slightly. He smiles, though it doesn't appear to be friendly.

"No," River repeats, not letting any of her feelings show. It is vital that this encounter goes according to her plans. If it doesn't, she's not sure what the outcome will be. Watching him, she swallows, trying to figure out what he is thinking. She knows him better than anyone or anything in the Universe. He is incredibly easy to read, simple to understand. Yet, now, she can't determine what he will say or do next.

"Okay." Smile lifting into a smirk, he takes a step towards her. Narrowing his eyes and bringing his head down a touch so they are at eye level, the Doctor's gaze flickers to her mouth, before coming back up to lock with her own gaze. The delight in his expression causes her to shudder. Breath warm against her skin, he opens his mouth slightly, before leaning forwards until there is barely a centimetre between them.

"Are you sure, River?" he asks. That is the signal she needs to know that the man standing before her is definitely aware of their relationship status. However early it is for him, it isn't too early.

Lifting her head, she finally lets her lips rise into a smile. This play for power is a game, one that isn't serious.

"Quite, love." Moving to touch her lips to his, River reaches her arms around his neck to pull him closer. He doesn't react until she trails her tongue along his bottom lip as an indication of permission.

Tonight they follow her rules.

Yes: Fanfiction

Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Eleven/Jack
Word Count: 717

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

Jack smiled. "You've got to be completely sure, Doc."

The look he received in reply only helped to add to Jack's amusement.

"I said yes, Harkness. Now, if you don't want to-"

Quickly clamping his hand over the Doctor's mouth to cut him off, Jack couldn't help the smirk that made its way onto his lips when the Doctor's gaze lowered in a glare. Feeling the warmth of the Doctor's flesh under his palm, being slightly tickled by the cool breaths blowing onto the back of his hand, Jack stepped forwards to bring their bodies closer together. Being trapped between Jack and the wall behind him, the Doctor didn't appear to be bothered by the vulnerable position he had been put in.

Lowering his head, Jack narrowed his eyes a touch and let his gaze lock with the Doctor's. Bringing his other hand up, he placed it against the skin just under the Doctor's ear, before trailing his fingers down the Doctor's neck until he reached the tweed material of his jacket. Revelling in the tiny shudder the move caused in the man he had pinned, Jack moved his head forwards to further close the gap between them.

"You certain you want this?"

He watched as the Doctor swallowed, before nodding his head slowly but firmly. Happy with the consent, Jack brought the hand that was by the Doctor's shoulder back down to his side, before cautiously moving it to rest on the Doctor's thigh. Running the back of his hand up the inside of his thigh, Jack's smirk wavered as he slowed his pace and carefully caught a feel of something stiff. Applying more pressure to his other hand when the Doctor let out a tiny whimper, Jack curled his fingers on the hand currently occupied elsewhere and made sure to get a tight hold of his intended target, before tugging, hard.

The yelp was expected, as was the jerk and the Doctor's sudden attempt to force himself as far away from Jack as possible. Any attempt was futile, though, since the wall was solid, and Jack was using his entire body to keep the Doctor pinned against it. Keeping his concentration on the task appointed to him, Jack had to bite back his curse when he continued to pull, causing more groans to escape the Doctor's mouth. Gritting his teeth together, smirk disappearing, Jack let his gaze rise once more until his eyes met the Doctor's. The emotion he saw made him pause.

Hands dropping down to his sides almost of their own accord, Jack was startled when the Doctor let out a desperate cry.

"Wh- What... Don't stop. Jack, please."

Hesitating for a second, Jack muttered a quick apology before moving his hands back to the positions they had been in moments ago. Closing his eyes and preparing for a loud scream that was certain to come even though his hand was covering the Doctor's mouth, Jack got a firm grip and once again began tugging. Not allowing the noises coming from the Doctor to distract him, Jack opened his eyes and lowered his gaze until he was staring at the offensive object. Giving one final heave, trying and failing to ignore the scream that burst into the room, Jack couldn't stop the laugh that poured from his lips when the other end of the metal pipe finally came into view as it was removed from the tender flesh at the top of the Doctor's thigh.

Letting the pipe drop to the floor, Jack turned his attention back to the Doctor. Not caring that he was still effectively covering the Doctor's mouth and stopping him from being able to speak, Jack revelled in the pure relief he could see in the Doctor's expression.

"Better, Doc?"

Smiling when the Doctor let out a tiny laugh of his own, Jack found himself bringing their bodies close together once again as he leant his head forwards and brushed his lips against the soft skin under the Doctor's jawline.

"Now, after I get my nanogenes to heal up that gaping hole in your leg, how about you thank me properly?"

Green eyes locked with his blue ones, and Jack didn't need to hear any words to know that the answer was a definite yes.

Death: Fanfiction

Rating: PG-13
Warning: Character Death
Word Count: 742

It wasn't supposed to end with someone dying.

Pulling in a deep breath in an attempt to calm herself down, River licked her lips and closed her eyes as the sound of crying reached her ears. Swallowing, she tried to stop herself from shaking as the memories of the past few hours replayed in her mind. In a way, she shouldn't have even been a part of this. The Doctor had called on her, asking for a bit of help with a situation that should have been easy to handle. Thinking back on it, River understood that he hadn't needed her help. It had come down to him wanting her to be there with him, and that had been enough to convince River to go.

Now, River kind of regretted letting her emotions dictate her decision. The plan hadn't gone right. They'd ended up running for their lives, like so many times before, but something went wrong. Instead of coming up with an idea to fix everything, rather than watching as the Doctor came up with a brilliant solution to all their problems, they had both witnessed a devastating slaughter as aliens neither had encountered before began killing everything in sight.

Unfortunately, Amy and Rory had been among those few killed instantly, within moments of the aliens arriving, so nothing could have been done to prevent it. The shock had been sudden and horrid, and River wasn't sure how either she or the Doctor had escaped alive. She had vague images of dragging him away from the mass of corpses, of screams and hysterical protests as she'd forcibly shoved him into the TARDIS so he wouldn't be killed too.

The survival instinct was strong, and she recalled watching it finally kick in for the Doctor as he turned to the TARDIS console and rapidly piloted them to another destination, far away from the planet, and far away from all the death.

Finding out that what they had just seen was a fixed point in time, meaning they could do nothing to stop it from happening, had only added to their overall horror. River had spent the last three hours convincing the Doctor that they couldn't go back, that they weren't allowed to. And that had hurt.

He was the one that should have been telling her. He was the Time Lord, he was the one who knew all the rules, the one who had to make sure everyone else followed them. It wasn't fair that River had to be the strong one of the two right now. But, no matter how much she tried to deny it, River understood that that thought, that expectation she had that made her think he'd be the person doing the comforting, was the thing that wasn't fair.

The Doctor had seen enough death in his time, had comforted enough people. Returning the favour wasn't too much to ask of her.

Opening her eyes, River lifted her head. Gaze instantly seeking out the Doctor, she felt a pang of guilt wash over her as she watched him. Sat down with the TARDIS console behind him, with his arms on his knees and his head resting on his arms, she could see his shoulders shaking slightly as he failed to keep control of his emotions.

Moving into a standing position, never taking her eyes off him, she slowly made her way over to his form. Hesitating when she was within touching distance, River opened her mouth, but no sound came out. She didn't have the right words, couldn't think of anything that would calm him down. Closing her mouth once more, mentally scolding herself, River lowered herself until she was sitting down beside him. Bringing a hand up to touch his shoulder, she felt his body stiffen. Using her other hand, she gently brushed her fingers through his hair. It took no longer than five seconds for him to lift his head and look at her.

Letting a small smile rise onto her face, River moved her arms around him and pulled him in for a hug. She had to hold back on the sob that wanted to leave her mouth when he wrapped his arms around her and began crying openly and unabashedly in front of her.

Closing her eyes yet again, River felt tears of her own start to fall. This felt too wrong. It wasn't fair.

It was never supposed to end with someone dying.
