Soooooo...
I'm back from AX with only a few battle scars. The boots I wore on day one shredded my heels and I limped through the rest of the days with open blisters. Gross and painful. I got through it, though! ^_^ I worked for Bryan (Yaoi-man) at some point on all four days, and also helped him set up on day 0. I got my badge for free and he gave me two free doujin. He even said that I can be an official part of the company, if I want. He'll pay me an hourly wage and later on, he might fly me out to other conventions. I think the guys liked me, I worked hard for them, and I had no problems wearing skimpy clothes to draw in the guys. The funny thing was, I was standing in the yaoi section, and so the guys had to pretend like they were interested in gay porn to look at me. *laughs* I bought this tiny little costume for the fourth day while I was there. It's a stylized Dorothy-looking costume. Basically, I wore that, held a paddle, and bounced up and down that day. I also ate ice cream. Tee hee... Three girls asked for my picture, and a TON of guys asked for my picture, too. The guys at the booth were like "You just like the attention, don't you?" and I said "Hey, I'm not used to this much male attention. It's rather empowering. Muahahaha..." So anyway, I may be working for Bryan a lot more in the future. I like selling anime porn! It's fun! ^_^
OiC won first place in the karaoke competition, group category! YAY!! And surprisingly, I wasn't the one freaking out this year. Usually, I'm the one getting all stressed and thinking everything's going to be bad and it'll be all my fault, blah blah... But this year, I was pretty cool about everything. It seemed to be the other girls who were freaking out... But in the end, it didn't matter, because we won! We won! We won! We won!! YAY!! Not a lot of people came to the karaoke panel. Maybe I should have brought a bag of candy or something... But for the people who did go, all five of them, I hope OiC and Nightscape managed to help them out somewhat! I had fun being a part of that panel. I hope I said something useful. Catherine and Mandy won second place. I was so proud of them! Hank gave us our trophies for Fanime while we were there and he was so nice to put "Otaku In Crime" on the little plaque! I was never in sports as a kid, so the fact that I have trophies now is really cool for me!
I got into the finals for AX Idol, which made me happy, even though I didn't win because it means I managed to beat out 44 other people! Mandy won, which makes me so happy!! I knew she would. Now she'll get to be a famous singer!! ^_^ I wasn't really happy about the fact that Trisha and Marie didn't make finals because there was this one girl who I didn't think had an extremely good voice, and yet she got in. And I wasn't happy with the judges, because they mostly talked about the way people LOOKED, not how they sounded. I'm thinking "This is a vocal competition... Talk about the vocals!" So I was sad, because that means they were only looking at us for marketing purposes. And while I think I'm rather good-looking (at least, now I do), I'm not sure I'm all that marketable. Even the girl who I thought was terrible was told she "has a very pretty face and she's very attractive." Ugh... So maybe if I shrink down to a twig next year, I'll have a shot at the title. Or maybe I'm just bitter. Who knows? *shrug*
Marie competed in the Write Your Own Lyrics contest. I would have, but I was at Masquerade. That turned out to be a complete bust. It was the worst Masquerade I've ever seen. Usually, there are at least 4 or 5 acts that make you think "OMG, I could NOT have missed this" but I really didn't think that about any of the acts. Only two of the acts were really any good. I much rather would have been working on some lyrics so that I could have performed with Marie. She didn't win, but she had fun, and said that if there had been a category for "most awesome song," she would have gotten that. Adam competed in the Acoustikaraoke, he didn't win, but he said he had a good time and the people who did win really deserved it. I felt bad that I didn't go see him, but I was in AX Idol at the time!
I saw Jenni while I was there! Her Miaka costumes were so damn cute!!! I must get my own purple wig so that I can be Nuriko again. We still took pictures, even though I wasn't a part of the Fushigi Yuugi gathering. I actually wore my OiC finals costume three times during the convention. It was very comfortable. And people took my picture, even though I wasn't from anything. Maybe they thought I was from some obscure video game.
I was interviewed four times at AX! Once before Ax Idol and once after by these people from COMCAST. It's some anime-on-demand network. So AX Idol will be broadcast on COMCAST with me on it!! Whee hee! I was also interviewed the next day by these independant documentarians and they talked to me about AX Idol and cosplaying. And some other guy interviewed me and Jenni about cosplay in general. I feel so important! ^_^ I filled out a lot of release forms.
Anyway, that's about all I can think of for now... I had a lot of pictures taken. People told me my costumes were really good and really cute. ^_^ There were quite a few people dressed as the Phantom of the Opera, which made me happy and confused at the same time. I'll be getting my pictures developped as soon as I finish the role. Hopefully, I can use up my pictures on our private Gravitation shoot. And hopefully, my legs will feel more normal soon.
Loves,
Licie
