I de-molded the mask earlier in the week and cast a mask last night.
The extra silicone never cured up. I am not sure if it was because I added thickener to oomo or if the Vaseline I used as a release agent on the mother mold contaminated the other silicone.
Petroleum produces can contain sulfur witch will keep the silicone from curing.
The mold has problems.
1 - edges not cured so it is sticky and gooey.
2 - the edges do not have good registration with the mother mold so they flop around.
But I gave it a try anyway.
I got a surprisingly good result. (I will post pics later)
My first attempt at slush casting went well. A big part of partially cured resin sloughed down into the nose as I was casting. I added more resin and re coated the exposed area. But the tip of the nose wound up full of resin.
Lesson here: Go slow. Smaller batches and longer cure time between pours.
I cast a second one last night. We will see how it de-molds today.
Poe's comment upon seeing the 1st cast.
"Ok forget making my awesome mask, can we make up 10 of these?"
Heh, I can just imagine outfitting the whole guild with them ;)
Poe got some taxidermy noses and teeth to add to the mask and I started work on the jaw. I had to tweak it a bit to get it to lineup with the mask. More Bondo and sanding this weekend.
