I am going to get a new rice cooker. We had one, but it was too small and not very good.
The thing is no one local stocks high end rice cookers. Not a big surprise, but annoying.
I need one that can do different types of rice. Gian uses mostly brown rice.
A bit of poking on line and the Zojirushi line seems to be the favorite.
I am a bit confused about the "cups" apparently the "cups" refer to rice cup measures which is NOT a standard cooking "cup". (Oh, it is in the manufactures FAQ: a rice cup = 6 ounces, approx. 3/4 of a CUP.)
Gain uses 1.5 standard cups of rice for most meals, so I need on that can handle at least that amount. And preferably at least double that for the occasional big batch.
That would be about 12 ounces or 2 rice cups. So a 2 to 4 rice cup capacity would be ideal. If it can do the smaller amount just as good as a full batch I may look at the 5 rice cup size.
*reads* Looks like the higher end units are good a adjusting for different rice amounts.
*reads the manufactures FAQ's*
"why use a rice cooker" ...perfect rice every time... ...time saver... ...cook without a stove like in dorm rooms..." - heh for some reason that last part cracks me up. But that would rock for a dorm or office break room.
Hmmm the better units can do oatmeal, resotto, all kinds of dishes. Just like a crock pot. I think I will get a recipe book to go with it.
