Proping Continues

Weekend was nice. Kind of Lazy.
I am working on a second spear prop. I like the shape of this new one allot better. I have done the main fill work, the rest is just pits and dings. There are some grooves in the main shaft (I used a carved table leg to build up on.) I am not sure if I will leave them or fill them in yet. I figure I will be ready to make a mold soon. (Hopefully I can get a finished production part by the next game)

I also made up some scrolls. cut down 11x17 prints on wooden dowels. As a test I aged one (burned edges, vinegar - dried in stove.) and then coated it with thinned down wood glue. I like the way it came out. It is stiff and has a texture that reminds me a little of velum. Plus the wood glue gave it a nice yellowed tint. Now I just have to wait a while and see if the glue gets too brittle with age.

For the text I took a passage from John 19. I made 2 scrolls, one in English and one in Latin. - Yeah you can get the whole bible in Latin at http://www.sacred-texts.com/ - pretty cool hu?
The scrolls have a very war hammer 40K feel to me. So much so I want to see if I can get a bunch of WH40K quotes to put on scrolls like this. (it is way to easy)
I'll need some big wax seals too. Hmm, I should make up some Fading Suns ones as well. (anyone have some suggested quotes or books?)

If I didn't have so many pages I might think of trying this for my book of Longinus pages as well. (75 pages and counting)
Maybe I will do it with just the Testament of Longinus part. (14 pages)

I need to make some scroll cases to carry these in as well.
(Scrolls and scroll cases - always good prop fodder)

I also have some new ideas for my "Power Core" prop. I can use all-tread as the "cores". I think I will glue some together and try making a mold of it. Again so I can crank them out. Take a box, glue a couple of 1/2 cores to it and suddenly you have a Sci Fi box! heh. I was thinking of using them to accent a Sci Fi gun prop too.
