Yesterday's Reunion

Mar 30, 2008 08:33

Before I go on over to my audition for Stages' West Side Story, I want to just take this time to post about eventful yesterday.

On Saturday, the 29th, I had my long-awaited reunion with high school classmates and friends Ysabel (waterbaby13), Jan (janbunag), and Jocie. This reunion was extra special because Jocie, who doesn't frequent our get-togethers, was there. Following is my picture story of the events.

Eventful, Long-awaited Saturday with the Cronies

Part 1: Lunch at Omakase

We kicked off our day by lunch at Omakase- Ysabel's treat! One can say this was Ysabel's graduation celebration with us. Go, future architect! We had a sushi platter, extra sushi, tofu, cold noodles, kani salad, bottomless iced tea, and house tea.

My romanticised pictures of the iced tea. Mwahaha!

The Food

Part 2: Tambay at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf

We carried forward our day by walking over to Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf where we decided to hang out and just talk while those with a little money left buy drinks. While there, we agreed to get a magazine to wile our time away. Get ready for a three-friends-hunch-together-to-look-at-a-magazine series...

While I perused and browsed through the day's broadsheet of Philippine Daily Inquirer, Jocie, Ys, and Jan decided to look together at a local fashion-whatever magazine I brought over to the table.

right photo: Jocie, from Coffee Bean to the karaoke room! Yes, upon her strong endorsement, we headed over to a karaoke room in Timezone next.
Part 3: Karaoke Time at Timezone!

The next leg of our reunion consisted of a karaoke session at a humble karaoke room of Timezone Active. We sang, and sang, and sang! Ys sang songs like "Lovefool" and something in Filipino. Jan performed his David-Archuleta-like (according to Ys) renditions of "Imagine" and "Let It Be." Jocie chose songs like "Underneath Your Clothes" and "Pieces of Me." As for yours truly, I started my set of turns with the karaoke machine's very bland and boring accompaniment for "Circle of Life," I declared and sang as my theme song for the moment "Leaving on a Jet Plane," and the song I can say I most enjoyed singing is "Head Over Heels" (misspelled by the oh-so-revered karaoke machine as "Head Over Heals"). I love the 80's! At that moment, I seriously re-considered being a full-fledged 80's junkie. I don't think I expressed my love for the 80's enough before.

Ys and Jocie hit it off in front of the karaoke machine.

And now for our finale, our final song. Ys selects "I'm Gonna Be Around" to sing and dedicates her karaoke rendition to us. Awww... Thank you, Ys!
Part 4: We Ate Our Ice Cream Hearts Out!

To our great fortune, Ys had a gift certificate for a half-gallon ice cream at Better Than Ice Cream (BTIC). From the counter/stall, we brought to our table a whole half-gallon container of ice cream and ate away with our respective tongue depressors! No one broke up with us. We just looove ice cream. Especially if it's BTIC!

This is the ice cream we ate, which Ys eventually had to take home because we merely consumed the "surface." BTIC Frozen Yogurt (yup, what we ate, technically, wasn't ice cream) low fat, low calorie premium no sugar added dark choco almond. Jan and I were voting for something called choco walnut crunch, but both Ys and Jocie were voting for the dark choco almond. Both sides even, we had to decide through flipping a coin. Yes, the coin decided for us.

And so that is it for how we three spent our day. After Ys and Jocie went on home, it was approaching 8:00 PM so Jan and I decided to head to Starbucks. I had read in the day's Philippine Daily Inquirer that Starbucks is among the corporations in support of Earth Hour 2008. Since we weren't at home, we thought it a good alternative to support Earth Hour by being at an Earth Hour supporting establishment. From 8 to 9 PM, Jan and I stayed at Starbucks while the main lights were turned off. I was also texting my mother and sister at home checking to make sure they were observing and enforcing Earth Hour. When I got home, I saw candles that were lit- proof that everything was turned off from 8 to 9 PM at our home. When I announced Earth Hour to the household, my mum said it's something we should be doing every week. Good idea. Well, I say that we take our environment seriously. We take and take, but do we give anything back to it?

Okay, off to my audition now. I am rather behind schedule.
