In my need to escape stress, I've been pondering Severus' birth chart. Those of you who are really into astrology or have had your birth chart done ( like me ) know who critical the rising sign is on your chart. It's typically the first thing strangers perceive about you - NOT your sun sign but your rising sign, also known as the ascendant. For example, you could be an exhibitionist Leo but if modest Virgo is on your rising sign a stranger would mistake you for a Virgo at first glance. The rising sign is so important you should actually be reading THAT in your daily horoscope instead of or in at least in addition to your sun sign horoscope.
So why mention all this?
Cause I've decided that Severus is probably Virgo rising. It makes sense. I mean when I first saw Alan Rickman's portrayal he was clearly presented as a quasi-Dracula figure with the black swooping robes, black hair, black eyes, and darkly menacing mien. So you'd think he'd be a sun Scorpio right? Nope. JK Rowling tells us he was born on Jan. 9 making him a sensible, conservative Capricorn. Huh? So I figured there must be something else going on. Maybe he's Scorpio RISING instead.
Then I actually managed to scarf an autograph from the Rickman himself at the stage door of his last play, Seminar. Mr. Rickman is a Pisces ( sweet lovable creatures actually, the sweethearts of the zodiac and frequently easily pushed around unfortunately because they can't say no ). Well that ain't how he came across. No surprise there. I just remember his energy hitting me like whoompf. So I said oh dear wonder what HIS rising sign is.
After fiddling and futzing around with astrological stuff I took a guess and said maybe he's Leo Rising. Why? Leo is theatrical and can be exhibitionist ( acting anyone? ) but in the year Rickman was born ( 1946 ) Pluto, Scorpio's ruling planet, was in Leo. Having the ruling planet in one's first house or on the rising sign can have a similar effect to actually being that rising sign. It would be as if Leo Rising combined with Scorpio Rising. So I figured if that makes workable sense for Alan, would it also make workable sense for Snape?
Well why not? Snape was born in 1960. Pluto was in Virgo that year. So he would be born with Virgo Rising but Pluto in the first house as well to give him a Scorpionic feel whenever people meet him. In other words, he might scare the bejeezus out of them just be standing there, bless his little heart =^) And when you read what Virgo Rising is like you might just find yourself agreeing. In any event,
Virgo Rising people sound like they'd make GREAT potion masters...
