Challenge #08-01: Spirit
Elle carries them with her, always. They're inside her, their voices clear and ringing. Sometimes they're quiet, whispering, sometimes they scream, literally scream, inside her head, shrieking and echoing till she can't think.
The ones she lost. The victims they couldn't save.
Before, before it happened, she'd drink to keep them silent, to stop herself from hearing them, or sometimes she'd take pills. Sometimes, when things were very bad, both.
Now, though, she just listens. They have much to tell her, these voices. She has a lot to learn from them, about the law, about true justice, about restlessness and sadness and longing.
At night, she closes her eyes and they come to her, all of them. They speak their stories, and Elle listens.
