We have been very busy playing here. We get up and play our hearts out every day. Today we met a friend with her young charge at the Camden Children's garden, which is the best place in Philadelphia to play with a toddler. Never mind that it is in New Jersey...
On Monday we returned from almost two weeks in Vermont, where it was was quite rainy and hot for Vermont, which is not so bad at all when you are accustomed to the swelter. We went to Jay's 20th high school reunion, which was fun except for about the last hour (I was driving, so I was a little bored and tired by then). Going there made me feel kind of fat and out of shape (those Vermont people are very healthy looking), which has added a bit of inspiration to my exercise routine. I've been running almost every other day for a couple of weeks, and it feels awesome. I've been taking
this advice, running slow, and sticking to 30 minutes without stopping. What's great about going so damn slow is that even early in the game I can go 30 minutes without getting a stitch in my side. And it makes me feel better, it really does.
I had a work meeting this week, blah blah blah, that place is the nutty farm still, for at least one more year, and I vow this year to not take it personally anymore.
Having this much time off is such a blessing. It is long enough to not have to think about work, usually long enough to be ready to go back for more in the Fall. Maybe that won't happen this year, because I am having so much fun with my little girl, but I'm pretty sure that the escape hatch of September makes all this time very sweet without becoming cloying.
You would think that I'd be able to read more. You'd think that, but it just isn't true. I am reading The Heart is a Lonely Hunter and it is very good. In fact, I think I'll go pick it up right now...
