Snow in Summer by Jane Yolen
This kid's book is a long version of a short story published quite a while ago. It's a retelling of Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs in 20th century Appalachia.
It started slow for me. It really caught my attention by the middle of the book. The end came at the right time, and yet too soon. I wanted more!
Jane Yolen is a spectacular writer. It's such a great story, I'm going to let the story open up for you the way it did for me and not write about the plot or anything.
If you like kid's books, retold fairy tales, or Southern stories - read this book.
