As the Pig Turns by MC Beaton

This is the latest Agatha Raisin mystery. I found it to be less funny than previous ones and more edgy.

In this one, Agatha discovers the dead person (a local hated policeman) on a spit made up to look like a pig. Gross. The policeman was infamous for giving out tickets for minor infractions. In fact he had given one to Agatha just days before he died.

Agatha works on the case of course, but in stops and starts. She gets lots of ugly warnings meant to stop her. Before she was seemed fearless. But this is a different kind of thing. Agatha is starting to feel, I think, whereas she didn't much have feelings before. Or rather she didn't have very sensitive and nuanced feelings before.

So she gets fearful and stops. Then something happens and she starts up again. That's most of the book where Agatha's personality is concerned.

Meanwhile the mystery is ongoing. What's going on and why? James Lacey gets in on the mystery, as does Charles and Roy and Agatha's detective agency of course. As usual I find the book more interesting for Agatha and her relationships than for the mystery.

I read the book in record time. I definitely liked the mystery. I just think it's not the best of the series.
