This is a children's book. Not quite young adult.
In this book, Nola is a witch. She can do some small spells. She can see what a person is doing if she puts a hair in some water and says the proper words. She can make someone have a different appearance.
Her mother hears people in her head. Nola thinks she's crazy, but it seems like this is her "gift." Some of the people in her head tell the future.
So, being witches, they need to run away a lot. It's against the law to be witches and people are afraid of them. Nola and mom do a little work here and there and run away a lot.
Until. Nola sees a murder in some water.
This fantasy story is also a romance. The romance part is very cute. The story is quite suspenseful for a kid's book. Nola seems always to be in some danger.
I found this novel to be involving. I kept telling Nola whom to trust, what not to do, etc. She rarely listened to me. :)
