Corduroy Mansions by Alexander McCall Smith

This book is similar to the 44 Scotland Street series in that it was written in episodes and is about the people in a building of flats. This one takes place in London though.

I also like it less than the 44 Scotland Street books. The characters aren't as odd I think. I did like some of the people, like Berthea, the mother of an unlikeable MP.

In Corduroy Mansions, we meet William who is trying to get his son out of the nest. In his attempts at doing this he ends up with a vegetarian dog and another - female - roommate he wasn't sure he wanted.

We meet Berthea and her son Oedipus the MP and his girlfriend (I've forgotten her name). Berthea's brother is Terence Moongrove. There's also a group of women living there and a man from Sri Lanka.

Some of the characters and situations were highly interesting and amusing and some were just kind of blah.
