I'm wondering where he got his numbers. The numbers seemed fairly even when I was in library school with only the school library specialty skewing to women.
Diversity at the Masters level is rarely an issue since the most of them tend to be a cash cows for the department and the school anyway.
Like someone else said, I doubt diversity is an actual issue at that level. They'll take pretty much anyone with decent grades, because everyone's money is good. He's no more likely to get in than you--and you're both likely to get in, assuming you can both pay for the program.
Definitely fewer men in library schools. However, library schools aren't really all that terribly competitive so I don't see why either of you would have a problem getting in.
I went to a very competitive library school and there were only a handful of guys - I don't think they had any advantage in getting in. I have, however, felt like the guys have had an upper hand in the job market at times.
