I love my job.
My boss asked me to put together a small, Christmas-themed exhibit for the two small display cases in our department. She suggested a couple of items that sounded promising, including a boxed set of first editions of Dickens' Christmas stories. Based on that, I decided to narrow the exhibit to a Victorian Christmas theme.
In our collection, we have the 1856 run of Godey's, and the full run from 1863-1866 of Leslie's Ladies' Magazine, with all the color plates and fold-out engravings and everything. I've been going through them (particularly the January and December issues) to look for holiday-themed stories and engravings for the exhibit.
So, I'm getting *paid* to sit in my office and look through issues of Godey's and Leslie's in detail. (Best of all, my boss is a costumer as well, so she doesn't mind if I stop to drool for a little while--as long as I don't get any drool on the book!)
I love my job.
