In light of all the enthusiastic CC-sewing-related posts that have been appearing as the Big Event draws near, I feel the need to take a moment, for my own sake, and issue a statement of my goals as far as Costume College is concerned, just to keep things in perspective.
First, I am *not* going to stress myself out trying to finish new outfits to wear every day. Yes, it would be lovely if I could get there and wow everyone with my amazing sewing prowess, but realistically, I'm going to want to wear something that's comfortable so that I'm not dead on my feet after 8 hours, especially on Saturday, when I'm going to be getting all corseted for the Time Travellers' Gala. On top of that, I'm going to be spending a chunk of Sunday in the dancing slipper workshop, so I don't want to be wearing anything that might get in the way of my sewing.
Also, I'm only going to be there for two days. I'm sure I can come up with two days' worth of comfortable costumey stuff to wear from my closet. After all, I've only been costuming (albeit in a lazy, haphazard fashion) for 10+ years now!
On top of that, I've got Rare Book School the whole week leading up to CC, which means that I'm going to have zero time for sewing between now and then. I've managed to read all but one of the short articles on the reading list, but that still leaves all of Gaskell and Bowers, and only one week to finish them!
So, at most, I might dig my half-finished
medieval dress out of the closet and hem it, put eyelets up the front, etc. Maybe even make a little coif to go with it just so I don't have to do anything more complicated with my hair than put it in pigtail braids. (That will also get me set up for the Viking Festival this fall, so all I'll need to do is make myself an apron dress and buy a set of turtle brooches. Whoo hoo!)
For the other day, I may either just goth it up, or throw together something vaguely victorian. I'm not sure I want to bother with the bustle though, as it makes sitting down rather more difficult. If only I'd gotten around to making the natural form tea dress that I've had in mind for the last year...
For the gala, I have three options:
1. Wear my bustle ballgown
2. Wear my LoJ masquerade gown
3. Wear my uber-gothy prom dress. (bwahahahaha.)
