corset lust

Okay, so I've officially had a 5-day break from sewing, and I'm all ready to get started again, like the obsessive-compulsive* madwoman that I am. For my responsible project, I'm still planning on testing out my pants pattern, so that I have something suitable to wear to work (casual, but not quite blue jeans casual--I could probably get away with jeans, but I'd rather not have to.) For my fun project though, I'm going to get started on some regency undies. After a quick chat via e-mail with qkilroy, I'm all inspired to try and complete a regency outfit this year.** As I've mentioned before, I have the Simplicity regency undies pattern, which is licensed from Sense & Sensibility patterns. The last time I was at JoAnn's, they had some nice poly/cotton batiste for something like $4-5/yd, which isn't great, but I've got my trusty 40% off coupon, which makes it considerably more reasonable. So, after work tonight, flying in the face of all financial responsibility, I'm going to head down to JoAnn's and probably buy up whatever's left on the bolt (assuming someone else hasn't already done so!) That'll give me time to pre-wash it and get a start on the chemise before this Sunday's stitch 'n' bitch. Not sure what I'll use for the short stays. Probably more of the ugly grey lightweight denim I've been using to line my corsets.

Oh yes... then there's the reason for the subject line. While looking around for info on regency corsets (it's hard to find informative pages that aren't Koshka's! As much as I adore her page, I'm hoping to find a few additional resources), I saw this photo of some corsets in the Kyoto collection. The one on the right looks basically like the Mantua Maker pattern, or Past Patterns #001, but for some reason, the one on the left fascinates me. Does anyone know of a pattern that might work for this, or what the front looks like? (I have a thing for transitional fashions, and I'd love to put together an early 1790's ensemble at some point.)

* OCD stands for Obsessive Costuming Disorder, doesn't it?
**In spite of all my enthusiasm, I really don't have all that many complete costumes. While I was a student, I had this strange mindset where I felt guilty if I was actually working on something fun (i.e. sewing) when I had school work to do, but then I would always procrastinate on school work, so the end result was a very unproductive span of years. Now that I'm finally done with school, and have no assignments to cause me guilt outside of 9-5 M-F, I'm making up for it!
