Yesterday, I dropped my car off at the mechanic's for a routine oil change, and to have them examine my rear bumper where a guy bumped into me at about 5mph last Thursday. (It looked fine, apart from a few tiny cracks to the paint, but I didn't know if it was one of those things like bicycle helmets, where you're supposed to replace them after a crash anyway, even if they look okay, because there's some internal damage?) I also mentioned that my brakes had been making scary noises, albeit only very occasionally and under strange circumstances. The oil change was considerably pricier than going to EZ Lube, but the bumper turned out to be fine, and they replaced my brake pads for free, so hurrah!
The other upshot of this is that, since I needed to get a ride from a coworker to get back to my car, and this coworker leaves work at 5pm instead of 5:30pm like I do, I actually made it home a little bit early. On farmer's market night. (w00t!) So, upon reaching home, I coerced Steve into coming to the farmer's market with me, where I picked up, among other things, 9 lbs. of Pink Lady apples with which to make apple butter!
To make things even better, the announcement went out yesterday afternoon that all non-essential departments have permission to close at 2pm today because of the holiday, so I'm actually going to have a little bit of free time this afternoon! Hurrah! There will be apple butter in my future!
Of course, I still need to go by a grocery store for a turkey breast, some stuffing, and other provisions for my mini-Thanksgiving dinner (it's just going to be Steve and me), and I still have my fencing lesson at 7pm, but I'll at least be able to start washing the jars and getting them ready to sterilize tomorrow morning.
