The results are in! My last official sewing day before Costume College has come and gone, and here's how the projects stand:
Waistcoat: needs (20) buttons sewn on, and 10" of hand-stitching on the inside
Apron: Done! OMG I love this thing (although I was spitting curses at it this time yesterday)
Corset: Done!!! I'd like to put some lace along the top, but it's fully functional.
Corset Cover: probably not going to make it. I'll still work on it if there's any time left after the waistcoat buttons are on
Petticoat: wearable (i.e. no ruffle)
I probably have about 6 hours of sewing time total between now and Friday, most of that away from home, meaning no more machine sewing. That should give me enough time to finish the waistcoat buttons, but not at whole lot else.
On Saturday, in my search for more overall clasps and black velvet ribbon, I stopped by my local bead shop (since it's across the street from F&S) and picked up ingredients for a new watch chain, since my old one has been broken for god knows how many months now. Don't ask me why I didn't think of this before, since the new chain is significantly nicer than my old one, being made of real silver instead of cheap white metal. Now, I just need to go get a new battery for the watch.
I had also planned to fix the black wool 1890's skirt that I threw together for last year's Costume College. In addition to the waistband being just a smidge too tight, I also managed to make the pleats at the center back completely wonky, despite being very careful to do the same thing on both sides. Well, I pulled the waistband off today and found that the reason the pleats were wonky was because I had somehow managed to sew EVERY SINGLE PANEL either backwards or out of order. *facepalm* Okay, so this was a VERY last-minute job, but still...
At any rate, since I had to completely disassemble the whole thing anyway, I re-cut the panels so that they flared a bit more, and added another panel at the center back. It's all back together now, although I can't for the life of me find my skirt hook & bar closures, and the hem is just basted for now. And I think the waistband is still a smidge too tight. Sigh. It's a pity that I don't have a proper edwardian petticoat to wear with it, since all that extra fullness at the back just kind of falls flat at the moment. Maybe I'll try to rig something up with my hoop era petticoat...
In other news, I finally got my butt over to Office Depot and bought a new charger for my camera batteries, so that I'll actually have a working camera for costume college. I'm also hoping to post a bit of picture spam on here in the hopes that, if you guys know what I look like and what I'm wearing, somebody will actually come up and say hi to me!
