1. False Colours - Georgette Heyer
2. Whacked - Jules Asner
3. To Tame a Highland Warrior - Karen Marie Moning
4. Good Omens - Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett
5. The Last Olympian - Rick Riordan
6. Shadowed Summer - Saundra Mitchell
7. Uglies - Scott Westerfeld
8. Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life - Brian Lee O'Malley
9. Crash Into Me - Albert Borris
10. Cordelia’s Honor - Lois McMaster Bujold
11. My Imaginary Ex - Mina Esguerra

If the Highlander romance wasn't enough of a giveaway, yes, this is my summer reading list, for when the weather is brain-meltingly hot that I try not to read anything that requires deep thoughts. (Yes, that is Jules Asner of E! and Steven Soderbergh fame.)

I would have picked My Imaginary Ex as my book for the month but alas it has no unicorns or mysteriously absent Dukes and the women who masquerade as their mistresses. Thus, I have chosen Crash Into Me, a story about four teenagers who go on a road trip to visit the sites of famous suicides, with a pact to kill themselves at the end of their travels.

I also started reading these books in August but I gave up on them:

1. The Season (Sarah MacLean) - Reads like a poor imitation of Georgette Heyer written for a YA audience.
2. Melusine (Sarah Monette) - A fantasy novel that seemed geared towards my slashy interests but it suffers from pedestrian language and unsexy prOn.
3. Job Hopper: The checkered career of a down-market dilettante (Ayun Halliday) - The book title is the most interesting thing about this non-fiction book.

I used to suffer through bad/uninteresting books to the bitter end but I've decided to apply my potato chips rule to reading: If I don't like it, I will throw away (stop reading) the rest.

ETA: I lent Beige the non-unicorn book. She loved it and wants to know if Mina has written more.
