By way of
naominovik : Del Rey has started a
free online library of its catalog where you can get free PDF copies of fantasy and sci-fi books.
If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend the first book in the Temeraire series -- His Majesty's Dragon (
click for direct link to the PDF file). The first batch of free books also include works by Harry Turtledove, Kim Robinson, Robin Hobb, and T.A. Pratt. Don't know who Pratt is but the other three I'm sorta familiar with. I've borrowed Green Mars by Kim Robinson from the library a couple of times but I've always had to return it unread due to time constraints. Guess I'll finally give him a try.
I just finished reading my first e-book (
Warchild by Karin Lowachee) because it was the only copy available in the library. I still prefer reading an actual book over reading one on my notebook. I think I'll have same issues (eye strain, glare, font size/page layout) even if I use a portable e-book reader. OTOH, I don't have the same issues when reading fanfic online, even the novel-length ones. Heh. Maybe publishers should reconsider the layout of their e-books. Either that or I should find a better software than Adobe Digital.
