So, awhile back, my sister and her boyfriend decided to enter a bridge-building competition. Well, more accurately, Walter had to enter it for school, and my sister decided to be his bridge partner because, well, they do everything together. They built their first bridge, and ended up doing the best out of their whole school. I thought this was pretty cool, since it meant that they got to go to a competition at IIT in chicago and compete in the Chicago regional contest.
When I talked to Katie over the weekend, they were "rebuilding their bridge, making it better" in preparation for the regional contest, which was held today.
Her away message right now was just something about having set out to build a bridge and ending up going to Tennessee. So I checked online -- Katie and Walter came in SECOND PLACE out of all the bridges in the regional competition...meaning that they get to go to the National/International FINALS in TN in April.
My sister is, quite possibly, the coolest person ever. I couldn't have given a shit about my bridge when I built it, but here she is, deciding to do something random that she doesn't even have to do, and she ROCKS HARDCORE at it. Awesome.
As my dad put it, "Amazing things happen when you put an artist [my sister] and a physicist [her boyfriend] together..."
I am so proud of her. For many reasons, but for this in particular right now.
