It has always seemed strange to me. The things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first, they love the produce of the second.
From "Cannery row", by John Steinbeck.
Its a cold and grey day in montreal. The leaves have almost all fallen from the trees. They are starting to become one with the earth again, and give the air its distinctive fall smell. There's nothing like talking a walk on one of those days to clear your head and think. And i just love the thick carpet of colorful organic matter in the parks of the city. Such days are rare and must be enjoyed to their fullest.
