Sticking

This happened 2 days ago, but I didn't see it until now: Dean bitchslaps Cheney on the "mother" remark.
Dean, in Boston on Monday for a fundraiser, told fellow Democrats that the party can win in traditionally Republican states.

"But we gotta be there and fight in order to do it. And believe me, we are going to fight back. I don't care if Dick Cheney likes my mother or not. We are going to fight back,'' Dean said to cheers and applause. "I think it's great that Dick Cheney went after me, to be honest. At least they notice there's a Democratic Party that's not going to put up with this stuff any more. So there's a lot we're gonna do.''

ROCK. Everytime I think I can't love Dean more than I already do, he ups himself yet again.

You know what I love most about Dean? He never apologizes. He's always saying things that stir shit up, and then HE STICKS BY THEM AND REFUSES TO APOLOGIZE. Unlike a lot of other Democrats I could mention.

One of our big problems is that we can't seem to stick together. We have a giant sticking problem. Let's take this thing with Sen Durbin... he made a controversial statement, and Democrats didn't stick by him. Eventually, Sen Durbin couldn't stick by his own remarks & recanted. Then, the huffy blogosphere (Kos, Steve Gillard, etc) got all pissed off for his non-stickage, and they wouldn't stick by him either. Now I'm completing the circle by not sticking by my fellow liberal bloggers. It's a mess.

The thing with Sen Durbin... first off, he should have taken a page from fandom flame wars & Godwin's Law and not made the damn Nazi references in the first place. It doesn't even matter anymore if the comparisons were accurate... once anyone mentions the Nazi's, you lose all credibility. (There was a great WaPo column on this yesterday). Second off, I would have *preferred* it if he had stuck by his remarks, but I understand where he was coming from. If you're under that kind of attack from across the political spectrum, you don't have much choice but to apologize. THIRD, Kos and the blogosphere should have the same kind of understanding. What does screaming at Durbin after the fact accomplish, except to stoke the disgruntled grumblings fire?

Fifth, I get to complain because I'm just special like that. Heh. No, seriously... I try to always look for the positive in my party members, even when they annoy me. Sen Biden may piss me off for sponsering that atrocious Bankruptcy bill, but I still appreciate his efforts against the Iraq War. Joe Leiberman... eh, I don't have much on Joe Leiberman. Get back to me on that.
